SSR Owner attempting to rent out points for first time. Help??

Hello everyone:

I am a owner at SSR and I have 55 banked points from last year that I will not be able to use by the time they expire in Sept. So I thought I rent them out!

Having never done this what is the process? When I list an ad, what happens next?

Anyone willing to give a first time rentor tutorial?

Go to the rent/trade board and start a new thread explaining how many points you have, time frame for use and price per point. You will be PM ed by people interested and will need to get their specifics to see the availability for the resort they want. You need to come up with terms such as 25% deposit and final payment options, use paypal or certified checks and a cancellation policy. You will need the persons names, addresses and let MS know it is for a guest when booking. I have the template for a contract that was posted on here some time ago for you if you would like it. It basically covers all the terms you would need covered and then some. It is a good basis to start with. If you have other questions feel free to PM or e-mail me.

I have no experience on renting points, but from what I have read, transferring points to another DVC is safer.

I rented from the same member on ebay 4 times, never signed a contract. We always paid him within 7 days. That wasn't his terms. Renting got me hooked though and now I own.

Go to the Rent/Trade Board and read all the sticky's, rules, regs, etc. That will give you a much better understanding of how renting on the DIS works.

I'd also use the search features of this board to track down threads which may be of help. The subject has been discussed ad nauseum.

Brasey was very kind to give you the general outline of renting. Beyond that, it's really pretty difficult for anyone to walk you through the process.

Be well aware of all of the basics of your DVC ownership -- use year, banking deadlines, borrowing procedures, cancellation policies, etc, etc. The importance of those can be magnified in rental situations.

Also be prepared to kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince (or princess). Many renters don't understand the system, have only a fuzzy idea of their vacation plans, etc. You'll have a lot of false starts -- it just goes with the territory.

there is one for closed points to rent. click that and see the system I use.

Just cut and paste and follow the receipe I use.

I'm surprised more people don't use it.

Becaus my points have to be used by end of August, they cannot be used for 2007 reservations.
