We're planning our first trip to Disney in September. I was pretty set on a 2 bedroom villa at the Boardwalk, but I think we need to cut back a little on the $$$. Both SSR and OKW are a little bit cheaper. Which one would you choose and why? How is the bus situation from these resorts?

Thanks!

both buses made stops before they leave - 5 I think for both.

that say their bus service is pretty good.

OKW feels like a small town

SSR has the same feeling - but more upscale.

so depends upon you.

you can easily walk to DTD from SSR, you can from OKW too - but not so easily.

OKW is home.

We've heard great things about OKW and stay at SSR a lot. I like SSR because you can walk to DTD from many locations there. We do like to take a boat ride over the OKW to have dinner at Olivia's.

Even though these resorts aren't right next to the parks like the BWV they are still very warm and cozy. The bus service isn't always that great from our experience at SSR, but we still enjoy the resort enough to stay there despite that (during off peak times the bus waits can be longer than you'd like) Just depends how good your transportation luck is.;) Ours doesn't seem to be that great no matter what resort we stay at LOL!

This can also happen with the boat especially coming back from Epcot or MGM around park close, the waits can be really long then! But you have the option to walk to the BWV from there if you really want to.

All in all I wouldn't let that stop you from staying at either SSR or OKW. Both are large resorts but there is quite a "homey" feeling to both of them. And, they are nice escapes from the theme park atmosphere.:thumbsup2

I don't know if I would say that SSR is more upscale it is just different. OKW is all pastels and light colors. Yes it feels like you are in a private community but that is one of the things we like about it. It is spread out but the walks to the bus stops are usually very short and we have waited for more than 10 minutes for the bus only once. You can take a nice liesurly boat ride to DTD, our favorite way. It is a greas place to go back to after the hectic pace of the parks. It is more of a laid back atmosphere then the others. Add to that the rooms are huge.

I love SSR and have stayed there twice due to room availablilty, but have not stayed at OKW yet. I don't think that you will be disappointed with either. I would also ask this question on the DVC boards: here is a link to two:

The first is the planning forum and you will get some help there; and the second is the mousecellaneous forum which often seems to get more responses.
Good luck,

Oops! I forgot to tell you that on the DVC boards there are some members who been going to OKW for 15 to 20 yrs. and sometimes they get very opinionated about why their resort is best (some of the SSR people sometimes do to); plus, OKW has been around much longer and may have far more fans. Either way, a post on these boards will give you lots of information and help, as well as be fun to read.
Also, go to allearsnet.com; there you can find out a lot of information under accommodations as well as a great many pictures.
