SSR or OKW? Urgent Help!

Hey folks,

We are looking to book for next year on Wed, now we have been offered a good deal for SSR or OKW, which is better, this will be our last trip for a while so want to make it a good one.

I don't think one is better than the other - they are just slightly different from each other in theming, layout and location! There isn't as much difference between these two resorts as, for example, between one of these and Animal Kingdom Villas.

• Both are large resorts but, to me, OKW doesn't feel as large as SSR because of the way it has been landscaped and is more established.
• SSR is close enough to be within walking distance of Downtown Disney; OKW has a boat ride to DD.
• SSR's dining options are more varied than OKW's.

They are both great resorts

I have not stayed at either, but I have heard the rooms are a lot bigger at OKW.

I love OKW, but can only compare it to BWV. It's a lot less packed in and consequently you don't have so many guests competing for the same amount of facilities. You can park outside your apartment, instead of a ten minute hike, and get a bed round the pool every time. I expect SSR would be about the same ratio of guests-per-pool as BWV if not more. OKW was an experiment and if it was built today would probably have four or five storey villas as opposed to the two storey ones it has, but with the same number of pools, shops and restaurants. Although it's quiet though, a lot of the decor was looking dated the last time we went and the theming wasn't as good as other disney hotels we've been in. It's almost like staying at a third party hotel within WDW.
That said, I've still put in for an exchange to SSR for next year because it does look nice.

I pondered on this decision as rented points to go to SSR as it was the DVC owners home resort but as rooms are bigger at OKW and the responses I had read about it we opted for OKW.
Have you looked into renting points off a DVS member and booking flights seperate? It has saved us over £800
It is a personal thing but having not stayed at either but visiting SSR we decided on OKW.The 2 double beds swayed it as well.It has also been updated as far as I know.

We stayed SSR last October it is our home resort as we are DVC members.
We loved it, rooms are really nice close to DTD close enough to walk,we thought the buses were pretty good never had to wait more than 10 mins. Oh ye we had a lovely view of DTD from our balcony so sat in the evenings watching the boats go back and forward.

If you look at the DVC thread there an OKW lovers thread. We are staying there in 3 days time, so I hope it's nice.

Personally we would love to stay at the Beach Club, but that's a 1000.00 more!!

Waiting while we get back to decide what to do, I can feel a booking for the beach club coming on though.

As a DVC member I have stayed at both OKW and SSR.

Personally I prefer OKW but i am sure you will get other that go for SSR.

My reasons are:

Bigger Rooms
Plenty of space at pool
Boat Ride to DTD (although SSR also has)
Warm homely feeling
Easy to walk around resort (SSR I got a little lost)

Either one is very nice but OKW just nudges ahead for me!

Enjoy whichever you choose!

I'm assuming you are staying in a studio. If so main difference is that OKW has two beds while SSR has a bed and a sofa bed. If there are only two of you then the latter is usually a better format. If it is a one bed then OKW wins hands down. I prefer the atmosphere of OKW but wouldn't want to stay in a studio there.

we've never stayed at SSR, only at the OKW and only in the 2 bedroom villa...

we LOVE the OKW....HUGE rooms.....a feeling of seclusion (since we take the deep in buildings on the river).....very friendly staff....

but mainly the HUGE rooms....they're really gigantic...

My vote has to go to OKW as we love the size of the bedrooms and the way the whole resort is laid out. The only thing that lets is down is the quick service food, there's very little choice and it's very slow.

We love OKW, it's great value for points.
