We will be staying @ SSR on NYE. Any tips or thoughts on celebrating NYE @ the resort?? I heard there is a party poolside and games leading up to New Years. Is this true?

Sorry to hijack but we will be there too for NYE and would like to know the answer to this as well.

Yes it is true! The Congress Park pool area is where the NYE party is held. There will be a DJ, games, trivia, bingo, etc. You can buy beer, but no wine, mixed drinks or champagne. The DTD fireworks are right in front of you, without all the crowds. We stayed for the party last year. It was alot of fun. Met some fellow Dis'ers (hi Brogan).

This year we are staying at SSR again for NYE, but are heading to DHS for the NYE party! This will be our fourth year in a row going at NYE.

I phoned DVC to ask if the NYE party would still be going on at SSR due to no more DTD clubs and she said we would need to phone SSR closer to NYE.
We were at Vero last NYE and loved the party, but the kids wanted WDW this year!!

THank you for the wonderful description of the party and I hope they keep it going otherwise we will go to EPCOT.:)

I am sure they will have the fireworks. Not everything is closing at DTD. There are still a bunch of other bars/restaurants over there.

No more DTD clubs? What do you mean. They just rebuilt a bunch of them a couple years back.?

We will also be there on NYE. We are having dinner at Yactmans around 7:45 and are trying to decide what to do. It is good to know SSR has a good party:cool1:

The clubs at Paradise Island are being closed and that area is being redeveloped. The rest of the clubs are still there....Planet Hollywood, House of Blues, Bongos, etc.

We love Yachtsman! From there, you can hit DHS or EPCOT. Both are great, we prefer DHS. More of a party atmosphere with the DJs, plus DHS only has fireworks twice a year.

I would love to plan a NYE trip one year. I would NOT go in the parks for the celebration but if DTD continues to have fireworks...and we stay at SSR....that would be a great time. Hmmmm now I have to give this some serious thought.

When you are ready to commit, let me know.

I can give you all sorts of hints, tips and advice for NYE trip!

I would not be so quick to dismiss celebrating NYE in one of the parks. Its really exciting, like being in Time Square.

I am looking forward to seein g the details of THV. If the point charts work and the amenities/transportation is good, I already was thing of getting two THV units for next NYE!

I really like the idea of three bedrooms.

It was released in the spring that WDW would be closing the Pleasure Island clubs. They are not selling any tickets to a NYE party that has been an annual event.
If you search this, there is a ton of disscussion about it. It made me sad, we loved the Adventures CLub but what can you do?? I did sign a petition though to keep that club going.
I'm sure they will have a good party at NYE at SSR though!

Couple questions:

My DW and I are interested in staying at SSR for NYE. While we are not big NYE people in general, we are big Disney people, and would look forward to an NYE celebration at Disney. Disney just does things right in my opinion. I am sure the crowds are excessive for NYE. How far in advance must you book NYE? Also, how hard is it to get dinner reservations?

With regards to PI, does anyone have a link to what the planned changes are?

Thanks

Are you planning on going this year? If so, there is no availability at DVC resorts for NYE. As far as ADR's, the sooner you can make them, the better. Everything books up fast.

Well, I'm not edk35 but I'd love NYE tips and advice! We'll be there this year and can't wait!

Not this year. Next year at the earliest. Maybe even at the end of 2010. We plan way out. I know what you are thinking. However, something like NYE will not be your average trip. That would be a trip where we get two rooms or go for a grand villa, and bring either a grand parent or someone else to watch the kids. Therefore, we might be looking at a points add-on, or renting points from other members.

Thanks for the advice. We'll take anything that anyone has to offer. I have already created a file that I put these recommendations in. This way, they are not lost come time for us to sit down and make final decisions on this trip.
