I know I can cal my dvc guide again (for the 12th time) but maybe you all can explain it better for me. She mentioned that I get one week at SSR that can be used from Sept 2008 to August 2009 because the AKV wont be open until May 2009. Does this mean I get a whole week there and still get my points for 2009?

If you purchase 160 points at AK you will get 160 developer points to be used at SSR, If you purchase 200 points you would get 200 SSR points and so on. I believe that these points cannot be banked.

If it is the same incentive I received in June they match the amount of points your are purchasing with developer points. The developer points must be used within a year can't be transferred or banked and the only DVC property they can be used at are SSR you can also use them for Interval international and some people have been able to use them for Disneyland in California. You will still get your 2009 points and depending on when you travel you may be able to stretch it to more than a week. I am getting 3 trips out of mine.

Yes, we are looking at purchasing at AKV as well and this is my understanding: They are preselling Kidani and the use year is Dec. The number of points you buy at AKV will be the same as the developer points you get that can only be used at SSR (actually my guide said they could also be used at the DL hotels too- I'm not sure if that is because we are dealing with the guide at DL or not). So if you purchased 160 at AKV, you would get 160 for SSR, or 300 at AKV would get you 300 at SSR, etc. I was told you would have 1 year to use the SSR points. You would get your 2008 AKV points in Dec. '08, but can not use them until after May '09. Your maintenance fees will not start until May '09.
Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! You all explained it great for me. I can now do a vacation twice in the next year and half :goodvibes

Yep, that's the deal. It's both an incentive to buy PLUS you are being compensated for not being able to use the points you get in December 2008 until May 2009. They also will not collect the dues until May 2009.

We just purchased an additional 100 points at AKL...We got 100 developer points for this use year that we can only use at SSR...100 points will get us three nights in a 2-bedroom in July...We will get our AKL points in our next use year but we can borrow from next year if we want to travel to AKL this year and use AKL points to do so...We also received a $500 Visa gift card and $500 rewards $$ on our Disney Visa because we put the $500 down payment on that card...We also got $800 towards our down payment...

So, yes you get a "free" stay at SSR...But it is not really "free" because you are paying for your interest in the AKL now even though you are not getting you points now.

I actually was very lucky and truly got free points. When I was at WDW in early June they had just reopened Jambo house to sell the remaining points they had. The computer program could not distiguish between Jambo and Kidani, therefore with a Feb use year I received my 2008 points, the developer points an $8 per point discount and I only had to pay maintinance fees for half the year. SSR was still available and I could have gotten a $500 gift card and $10 off per point but I wanted AKV and when I did the math with the developer points the deal was too good to turn down.

I'll second this! That is what we were told as well.:)

:woohoo: Great deal for you....Better than mine for sure!

I got the same offer. I've seen several people say the SSR developer points can only be used at SSR. Is that true? I (sort of) remember my guide saying we had a year to use them, and could wait until after May to use them at AKV if we wanted. They are SSR points but couldn't you use them anywhere with 7 months out booking?

Developer points assigned to SSR cannot be used at the other DVC resorts...That is the whole point of developer points...Your developer points are ONLY available to book at 7 months out and must be used at SSR, Disney Land or one of the international resorts...So no you can use them anywhere at 7 months out if you have the SSR deal...There are two "deals" out there right now...There is one with AKL developer points as well...But the same rule applies in that you can only use them at AKL.

Can you tell me if the AKL developer points applies to add-ons, or is it just for new members? We could definitely use those, as opposed to the SSR ones we were offered.

FWIW, our guide told me the developer points could be transferred, rented, or simply given away. Apparently not everyone is hearing the same thing?

It is for add-ons/not just new members...But I believe you must purchase at least 160 points to qualify for the AKL developer points...100-159 gets you SSR...As far as I know anyway.

Ah, that explains it! Thank you! :goodvibes
