Is this taboo? We have reservations for 9 nights at SSR deluxe studio for the end of November. We are fortunate to have a friend that works for Disney get us a very good price for the time we are there (not with points). I never considered staying at this resort as a non-DVCer, but when the opportunity was given, we took it as not much else was available. We do plan on buying in by next year, just not at this point.

So my question, is it odd or frowned upon for a non-DVCer not renting points to stay at this resort? I know it's strictly DVC, so I've been so worried.

Thanks in advance :)

Any guest can stay at any resort, cash guests are booked at DVC resorts by Disney just like other resorts.

not at all.

for one, i think the cash rooms rented at SSR help pay for SSR owners to trade out of the DVC system for disney cruises and such.

also - assuming you like what you see - it helps sell the timeshare contracts to new buyers.

I think it's pretty common for people to "try out" DVC resorts with cash reservations, especially if considering buying in and are on the fence. We own at SSR and I met a couple of different families on the buses when we were there in August who had rented out Treehouse Villas (part of SSR) on cash reservations. No worries. You'll fit right in. :thumbsup2

Awesome, thanks! Makes me feel better.

Since we paid cash, do we get mousekeeping daily or just every few days? I've heard daily but wanted to verify. What section would recommend?

should be daily if you are paying cash.

i like the congress park section (closer to DTD, for walking to the bus hub there.)

I personally liked the Grandstand section best (only a few min. walk up to the Carriage House or the water taxi) and a nice pool area plus it's the first bus stop. DH kind of liked the Paddock section - but our villa we had there was actually in the furthest building from the pool & bus stop (we used the Congress Park stop bcuz it was closer). Didn't care for the CP bus stop tho on MK morning EMH's - it was often full by the time it got to our stop so I would recommend the further walk to the Paddock stop bcuz the route stops there first. If we were to request the Paddock section again I would also ask to be closer to the pool & bus.

Definitely do :thumbsup2. I requested the building closest to the pool and bus stop and we were placed in the building right next to both and we loved it. We really liked this area anyways (our other favorite is CP because of the DTD views)...the bus stop was the 3rd stop before heading to the parks so it wasn't full by the time it got to our stop. Plus our building was right by the long bridge that took you across the pond to the Springs so the kids were able to pool hop a couple times easily.

OP don't worry about not being a DVC member and staying at SSR, there are lots of non DVC members that stay there. Think of it this way, it would not be an available option on the WDW website if it was strictly for DVC members :goodvibes. Have a great time, it is such a pretty resort and I think it would be amazing during the Christmastime with all the lights and trees :goodvibes.
