Ok SSR experts need advice for this weekend's 3 night 1 bedroom stay at SSR. I haven't stayed in the past 3 to 5 years, what's new or different? What's the best thing about SSR? Tell me about the pools... Bike rentals... We are doing the parks but we aren't park warriors and don't plan on being one this weekend. We enjoy resort time, cant wait to hear from all of you.

Peruse this SSR FAQ for everything you ever wanted to know about SSR. Included are pros and cons for each section of SSR and info about all the pools along with the answers to your other questions..

Have fun! We love our home resort for the serenity found there.

We love SSR and it isn't even one of our home resorts. We really enjoy having dinner at the Turf Club, unfortunately they aren't open for lunch anymore.

Paddock Pool may be new since you have stayed there, it looks nice. My grandkids loved it.

Congress Park is our favorite section for the water view and the new bridge connecting SSR with DTD is now open.

Enjoy your weekend!

I was like you I hadn't stayed there in a few years and just spent 3 nights there last week in a one bedroom. We stayed in Congress Park which is close to DTD but further away from the lobby/restaurants. The bus stop was close by and we didn't have a long wait. The pool in that area is smaller and has no bar/grill. Some people had coolers which was our regret we didn't bring one. SSR is a big resort if you have a car it makes it easier to get around.

Do any of the pools have a locker and shower area? We really like feature at VWL and AKL. We plan on just hanging out Monday until we are ready to fly home.

When we stayed last January, they allowed us to take a shower near the main pool in the building that has the spa/fitness center. We had run the marathon and needed a shower before moving to AKV and it wasn't a problem.

I dont think the new pool was there then was it?

Lots of construction at downtown disney too

Some differences:
  • Turf Club is no longer open for lunch.
  • The Paddock Pool has been remodeled with a slide and water play area for the little ones.
  • There is a QS at the Paddock Pool that serves breakfast and then the regular fast food menu. Although it has a great salad with a breast of chicken.
  • Construction at DTD, affects the view for the villas in the Congress Park Section.
  • New bridge and walkway opened from SSR to DTD. There is also a dock attached to it that you can board a water taxi to the West End.

Like you, we are not constantly going to the parks, and we actually build time into our Vacation to relax. We have stayed in Congress Park and Paddock Area and like both. Our daughter loves the pool in the paddock area, and it is just a quick walk across the bridge to get to the main pool if that is your preference. We like the quiet pool at Congress park as well.

Of course being so close to DTD, it is always an option to go over to get a quick bite to eat (Earl of Sandwich here we come!), or to take a stroll in the evening. I am looking forward to the changes to DTD, I am trying to find information on Disney Springs, and have seen some of the conceptual drawings. I am sure it will be done well.

My wife is a runner, so she jogs around the resort and over to DTD in the mornings, and I get to play golf, so you cant beat having LBV golf course right there.

The more we go, the more we find things outside the parks to do. I am amazed at the things we find. Last year we spent a half day over at Fort Wilderness just walking around, seeing how they care for the horses, and walking the nature trail between Fort Wilderness and the Wilderness Lodge.

SSR is a great resort to kick back, and there are plenty of quiet areas if you need to get away from the crowds for awhile.

We always build time in our vacations just to ENJOY the resorts and to relax a little!
