SSR, Does it need a "destination activity"?

I don't think that it NEEDS anything. I think it has a number of differentiators between the LBV golf clubhouse on-site, the best spa at WDW and proximity to Downtown Disney.

But, as an owner, I certainly wouldn't balk at an increase in dues that might result from adding some of the items mentioned here.

Do you have the recipes for any of these? The Meadow Muffins sound great!

I had a choice of where to send family this October and we chose SSR because it is a Destination Resort. A $80 (fam of 4) character breakfast does not make a resort a destination. Nor does a $300 meal at a sit down restaurant.

We chose SSR because it is close to DTD and a waterpark, The golf clubhouse is onsite, increased opportunity for a nice view, great pools, and lounge area. They love to golf, so that narrowed our choices to OKW and SSR. I love all the resorts, but I have no desire to have them all have the same offerings. SSR is close enough to the resort busses to enjoy other activities that the other resorts offer.

All those other activities are a bus or boat ride away.

I agree horses would be cool. Watching them graze would be peaceful. GOOD IDEA

Humm, BWV is getting a croquet area. I suppose those can all be used to set up a really challenging lawn-game verison of twister!

Yeah, but SSR will have around 12 million points when complete and sold-out. An increase of $.01 per point would generate $120,000 annually.

If they did do something with horses, they would have to be more than just atmosphere. I can see charges for carriage rides, horseback riding, etc. It doesn't make sense to nickle-and-dime members for fluff perks, but if they can tie it to revenue-generating activities, IMO it can be justified.

...My suggestion for anyone wanting horses at SSR would be to go hang out at a barn for a week and then decide if they want to spend their vacation that way!

Maybe I'm just strange then , bcs I love horse smells. As a part time job in High School for a time I shoveled the stuff (which explains why I always did well on Essay Exams, I guess), and have never minded the smell of horses at all - or cows or sheep for that matter, goats are borderline but pigs and chickens are just nasty tho.

But they manage to do an African savannah without offensive odors or major allergy problems at AKL; horses should be a cinch. I'm not sure how practical it would be, but it would be nice, and would definately have my DD begging us to reserve there over elsewhere.

But TJKraz is right, SSR (&S) already has some destination activities: in particular the best Spa in the area. I suppose DTD and golf couses are a draw too, just not for us.

you are forgetting PI - it has lots of regulars - who love to be able to walk/bus back to the resort with no long waits or rides.

If you are going to PI - SSR is the perfect place to stay.

You can do the parks until early evening - at night PI.

even BW quits before PI.

as to the 15 minute walk - have you ever walked from the parking lot rooms at BWV to BW - it took about that long - (of course that was before I found the short cuts)

The horses that they use as "lawn ornaments" for the guests are the same horses that they would likely use for things such as carriage rides and trail rides.They are more than capable of earning there keep. I own a horse currently (she smells better than my dog!) and have been on the trail ride out at Fort Wilderness which was a wonderful experience and well done.They already have the trained staff on hand to deal with the "horsies" as well not tommention they do alot of horse rescue. I think that if your going to theme around horse you mind as well "go big or go home". As far as the allergy thing goes...there outside? It doesn't really get much more ventilated than that I think? And as far as the big steamers go....."s@#t happens" I guess! I think it would enhance the theming in the same way that Animal Kingdom Lodge is enhanced by the Savannah. Looking forward to deciding for myself in a couple of weeks!
