What I mean is something akin to what you find at Ft Wilderness: HDDR, Mickey's backyard BBQ and Chip & Dale's Campfire sing along.

I realize that SSR is a short walk to DTD, but as it grows beyond Congress Park, will it need something to draw other guest to the resort as a destination a la the Boardwalk to BWV?

My feeling is that WDW is the "destination activity" since all of it is right there for you. I understand the lure of the other places yet all of these can be enjoyed from anywhere one stays. Just my thoughts.

What's the destination activity at OKW, VWL and BCV? Rest and relaxation. I don't go to the DVC resorts for the destination activity, just for a great place to stay. If you need a destination activity at SSR, you have the Spa and the golf course, plus being adjacent to DTD.

The boardwalk is what keeps me from BWV. I don't like all the noise and activity.

I think it needs something...even if it's only a charming sit down restaurant on site. Opening up the theater with Disney classics is another no-brainer (which would bring more of a crowd for dinner to fill the restaurant).

I realize that DTD is only a 15 walk away...but there is so much more they could do with the Saratoga theme right at the resort.

What SSR needs is Horses. Horse or pony rides would be a good start, and perhaps horses grazing etc behind fences that we could just sit and watch. Maybe some horse themed activity...

I agree horses would be cool. Watching them graze would be peaceful. GOOD IDEA

SSR needs a carousel, one that is better then the one in the Magic Kingdom.

A character breakfast would be cool. I agree it needs something. OKW needs something too, its boring. :rotfl: :rotfl2: BW has a BW, BCV has a Beach, character breakfast and SAB, VWL has a great lake, beach and great theme.

I do think SSR needs a draw of its own. I see the "draws" for each location as follows:

OKW - a golf course, Olivia's and DTD
BWV - the Boardwalk and EPCOT
VWL - FW attractions and MK
BCV - SAB, the Boardwalk and EPCOT
SSR - a golf course (same as none!) and DTD

What would be wonderful would be a musical theatre group.

OKW could probably use a little something more but since its theme is laid back Florida what could you add? Perhaps specialty gardens.

They missed their chance on one and seem to be missing it on another. A major pool was the main chance they had to define the resort for all DVC owners, they definitely missed that opportunity IMO. The current one is too small as a min for the planned resort size even with all the quiet pools. A theme restaurant was the other opportunity and though they could still come through on this one, I doubt it would happen at this late date.

My thoughts exactly. Of course, OKW's draw could be its seclusion as well as larger accomodations for fewer points.

I guess, when I posed this question, my line of thinking was "Besides DTD, why would non-SSR owners want to stay at SSR?" I'm not trying to downplay DTD, but SSR needs something else to augment the allure of DTD to attract non-owners.

A cool carriage ride, nice full service restuarant, maybe a "day at the fair" atmosphere. Is it too late to have a 2nd and larger theme pool in the area furthest from DTD?

While vacationing at SSR in January, one of the bell staff who escorted my family and luggage to our bldg/ room, did say that there had been discussion of adding horses somewhere to the property, and offering horseback riding to the guests.

I like that thought. While we're at it, lets add a gorgeous restaurant with nice big windows that overlook all the horsies.

We just purchased SSR in December after staying at FW for many years. Although I think horses are beautiful critters, I hope they NEVER put any real horses at SSR. Who will want the units with the wonderful horsey aroma wafting in them? ..... talk about undesirable! I could go with the carousel thing ..... love it, or an extra large pool ...... needed IMO. My suggestion for anyone wanting horses at SSR would be to go hang out at a barn for a week and then decide if they want to spend their vacation that way! :confused3

I haven't stayed there yet, new member, but it is my home resort. So I have a couple of thoughts. I sit-down restaurant may be nice, but i don't think the fact they don't have pone will bother me at all, since I know there are so many great places to eat at WDW. The horse thing, well, at first I thought it would be a great idea, but then I decided I didn't want my ''home'' to smell like horse poo, but the carousel idea sounds very nice!

I'd like to see a beautiful carisoul and a sit-down full service restaurant. A larger themed pool would be nice too.

Although real horses would be pretty to look at, I don't think I'd care for the smells they'd bring with them. Also, what about SSR owners with allergies, couldn't the horses potentially bring on some peoples upper respiratory problems?

:flower: Personally, I do not believe it needs a destination activity. I like the serene atmosphere of SSR and would hate to have the influx of visitors for things like HDDR, Spirit of Aloha, etc. This is a nice resort for less hussle and bussle like you find at BWV, BCV and WLV. I also think that the golf course and DTD is close enough of a surrounding activity atmosphere. :flower:

Edited to add: Thought about this a bit more. Although this wouldn't be considered a 'destination activity' per se, I think that with the current atmosphere (quietness, classy, spa, golf course, etc.) SSR could really use a restaurant along the lines of Victoria & Albert's. That would be very nice.
