Here are a few shots of the construction going on at SSR from last weekend. These were all taken from a watermouse that we rented at OKW and drove to Downtown Disney. I wanted to get some pictures from Downtown Disney itself, but it rained pretty bad on the day we went. We weren't able to explore much because it was a short, last-minute trip, but at least we were able to snap a few pics.

Thanks for the update. :)

It looks like a lot has been accomplished since late May!

Thank you:D :D

Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Do you happen to know what picture #1 is of?

Do you know what the building is in the background of building #5?

They look like they are making some great progress.

I know I read it somewhere, probably in information that Doc has provided, but how many units in each building? Those buildings look huge. I don't think having only one building open to start will make it spooky at all, particularly with DTD right across the way.

Picture #1 is a Treehouse Villa left over from the Disney Institute. We rode by it on the way to SSR from OKW. It looked fairly run down and the vegetation was getting overgrown. I have heard conflicting stories about the Treehouse Villas being part of SSR. I'm sure someone else knows more about this than I do.

The building in the background of picture #5 is one of the Downtown Disney hotels. I'm not sure which one that is, but I believe it's the very first hotel on the left when you turn into the DD hotel area. I'm sure someone here has a better knowledge of those hotels and can answer the question.

Each building will have 46 villas. Each will have a mixture of dedicated 2BR's and lock-off studio and 1BR villas plus 2 GV's.

There will be no dedicated Studio or 1BR villas.

These first 4 buildings will have a great view across the lake at DD. We used to stay in the Townhouses that were located in the same spot and we often enjoyed watching the lights of DD in the evenings from the bank of the lake. PI wasn't there yet, so I can't relate any prior fireworks experience.

Thank you so much for the pictures. I can imagine what this will look like very well now. It's really starting to look

It is much bigger than I originally pictured but the location is exactly where I thought it was.

Looking good!

Relative to the Disney Institute Map

found within this forum, can anyone provide details as to the construction site. If possible please reference the roads where the Villas will be, and are currently, being built.

I know it's at the old Disney Institute, but are the units being built along Buena Vista Lagoon or Willow Lake, or both, or neither?

Thanks.

The first four buildings are being built on the section in the lower right corner of the map adjacent to the lagoon. The old Townhouses were located there.

The other 8 buildings will be built around Willow Lake, where the Bungalows were formerly loctated.

All current plans involve only the right half of the map. The Fairway Villas are in the center section and the Treehouse Villas are at the far left.

The pool will be found where the #5 is located on the map.

Enjoy!

Are they doing any work on the spa while it is closed?

Will the check-in area and food area be in new buildings that are being built or in existing buildings that are being refurbed?

If I am reading this map correctly, I don't think you are allowed to take the water mice much past Buena Vista lagoon.

These pictures must be where the townhouses are pictured here. I also wonder if they will be using the other areas of the former DI. There is definitely lots of room for expansion.

I'm pretty certain that the Welcome Center will be where the DI check-in area was located and that Artist's Palette will be located where Season's Restaurant was found. Those areas were new for DI and are already fully equipped for similar function with minimal renovation.

Yes, the Spa is #6, the Cinema is #8 and the auditorium is #3.

The auditorium was used for lectures and celebrity readings, the Cinema was used to screen Disney features and special programs- we spent Valentine's Day one year at a viewing titled "Mickey Loves Minnie", which consisted of clips from early cartoons, narrated by a Disney animator.

#7 was the classroom area. There was/is a computer animation lab located there in a classroom setting. (Very interesting course!)

Enjoy!

Thanks so much for the great pics. The buildings are so much bigger than I had perceived from the sketches. Doc, you are a walking Disney encyclopedia!!

This is my first post to this board, so if I do something wrong, please let me know.

Thanks so much for the wonderful pictures!! My family bought into SSR last week. We are anxiously awaiting our papers. Your pictures have made the wait a little more bearable. Since we can't go until our fall break in Nov. 2004, every little tidbit is appreciated. Believe me, when we can start making reservations in Dec. I will be on the phone early each day starting Dec. 18 making ressies since we want to go over Thanksgiving. Keep up the good work!

We are going back at the end of October, so I'll make it a point to go over and take some pictures then. There should be some significant progress between now and then. I'll try to rent another watermouse or canopy boat and get some more pics from the water, that's a pretty good vantage point.

I'm sure others will be there in the meantime and will post some pics.
