Hi,

Can anyone tell me about the Carousel and Paddock areas of SSR?

Are they far walks to the main building and main pool? More interested in the walking issues for older relatives that may come with me and if it will be too long of a walk for them.

I just got done staying in Paddock. You can use the bridge across the water but I would say it is about a 5 minute walk. Depending on weather might be a little hot for older people.

either try for grandstand or spring - or get on a bus.

the last bus stop is springs, the first is grandstand.

so after you swim or eat or work out - just walk across to grandstand and catch that bus.

For those who are ambulatory-challenged (including myself, with an old ankle injury), it can be a bit of challenging walk from the Paddock to the main buildings. It is a nice area - we stayed in a brand-new room on our visit - but it just didn't work well for me.

Ive walked from each one of these ares except Carousel (Im glad for that :)

The walk from the Paddocks is a nice walk across the bridge. Unless of course you get one of the buildings further away from the bridge.

The Paddocks is closer than Congress Park and I believe that some of the buildings in the grandstand can be a hike as well.

Maybe request a room close to the main area/pool not a section.

Staying in Carousel is the reason I will never stay at SSR again. We didn't have a car, so getting to the main bldg when time is of the essence just didn't work. I really hated it. Try and get a closer bldg. and if they give you Carousel, tell them you'll wait as long as it takes for another room!

I don't know if I am reading through these but how far is Carousel? It seems to be the furthest on the map and seems like it would take an eternity to walk to the main building or main pool but I wasn't sure if it was just because of the size of the map?

Below is a map with walking distances (by Caskbill). The Carousel and Paddocks will be at the top of the page. The Carousel portion does not have a walking distance. They are the farthest from the main area, rooms 7100 to 7800. This should give you a good idea though.

If you go to Epcot and walk around the World Showcase you walked farther then if you walked from the check in building to anyplace in SSR.

Perception does not seem to equal reality here. I don't see posts all over the DIS going "World Showcase" is TOO big.

I have stayed pretty much everyplace but Grandstand and they were all fine.

What are you going to do if all they have is in the area you don't like? And yes, it could happen. They aren't going to evict someone for you to get a villa you like LOL!

Alll this information was VERY helpful. Some vacations distance may make a difference while others times it may not be such a big deal so this info gives me a better understanding of SSR. Thanks so much. I need to get as much info as possible since I a so new.
