can someone please help?



I'm currently waiting for SS to aprove my disbility claim per my latest heart attack. its already been a year and my cardioligist will not release me to go back to work. Per doctor i was told to apply for SSI, which I did and Im currently waiting for a hearing date for approved of my claim. My question is God willing it does get approved will I be elligable for back pay from SSI for the last 12 or more months i have been out of work? Thank in advance should anyone can answer my question.

I am not an expert, but I know somebody who was on Social Security Disability. The short answer is yes, they received back pay. It did take a lawyer (who got a share of it too) to get it done. Your mileage may vary.

You get back pay to the DAY you applied not the day you were disabled.

Went through this with one of my daughters. It took 16 months and they paid back to the day she actually applied not her date of disability which was 6 months prior.

There is a five month waiting period for SSDI, so if/when you are approved you will not be paid for the first 5 months after your Disability onset date.

SSI and Social Security Disability are very different programs.

Make sure that you are applying for the correct program. SSI is for people that have never worked. Currently the max a single person can get is right around $735/month. Disability is based off of earnings prior to being disabled.

Not true in my case. I applied and after they went through all the paperwork from the Drs, they determined I was disabled a year and a half earlier then from when I first applied. They paid me all the back pay from that point. Not only was I in shock they did that, but they also approved me on the first try!

You must live under a charmed star. I am glad that you didn't have to go through what many do to get approved. But sad that you were in a position that you had to apply.

Even though some days I grumble about having to go to work I do thank God that I am able to work and have a job I love to do and am able to grumble.

I was owed 17000 in back pay of which my attorney got a little over 4,000 of first and I've received 2 payment's around 2300 plus one emergency payment of about 2,000 so I'm still owed about 5500. Will they pay all that since my 3rd payment is coming up in about a month?

you get backpay to the date that you applied for SSI (or SSDI). Your dependents will also recieve back pay, if they are elligible for dependent benefits.
