SSE has soft-opened

Meg,
I think that is a great observation, one you should share with Disney.

Sounds like Disney is just dusting these rides off and then re-opening them.
Mexico they did the same thing. Let's replace a few of the super old movies and add some animated ducks. Sounds like Space Ship Earth got the same treatment.

Very disappointing since these rides have not been really redone since they opened. The GM motion and Horizons are really the only two that closed and really reopened with something new.

SSE closes again in the month of January. The website says the entire month.

That's correct. The reason it had a soft opening was to suck up some of the holiday mobs. It ain't done yet! There are still issues there.........

In the case of Horizons, especially, a "dusting off" (dumbing down) would have been far preferable to Mission Puke-a-Twirl we got instead.

Worst of all, fears that Spaceship Earth would indeed be "dumbed down" (like Mexico, JII, etc.) may well be coming true (granted, we do not yet have a finished product to judge; Many early reviews are not encouraging).

It's as if you've read my mind, along with a number of others on these boards. Disney seems to be going down the wrong track here. Or, in the case of ElRio, the wrong waterway. I'll give SSE a little more time. They are closing it down again in January, to finish it off, and let's hope we see something better when it reopens for good.

1) Hard, plastic headrests (cars NOT refurbished from old SSE)
2) Trite, dumbed-down narration (obviously Disney, Inc., believes no one CAN be smarter than a 5th-grader)
3) Inside one of the world's largest free-stranding geodesic spheres, forced to spend last third of ride (at least) watching small 6" screen inside vehicle.

Oh yeah, another re-imagined ride that's about as creative as Stitch.

Can't wait to see what they re-imagine next...

We rode this twice in earlier January. I had only ever been on the original once, and couldn't remember much about it at all, so this was like a 'new ride' to me. My daughter, 11, has never been on it in the past.
We liked it, but didn't love it. What I didn't like was I could hear the narration in the car ahead of us start before ours did, so I already knew what it was going to say to us. It was pretty annoying. They need to lower the volume somehow.
From the kids point of view, the ending was amazing....she LOVED how our faces were put into the jetsons cartoon. On the 2nd time we went, we took photos of that part, as they were quite funny. Sure, its the jetsons and cartoony, but kids will love this. I know my daughter did. I have to say I got a good laugh at it too - I looked quite funny in that cartoon. I think its a fun way to end the ride.
