BALTIMORE - The Social Security Administration has a warning in regard to an e-mail scam. The agency told WBAL-TV 11 News that an e-mail message has surfaced recently that fraudulently represents the Social Security Administration.

Officials said the messages are addressed as "Dear Social Security Number and Card owner." They said the message reads, "that someone illegally is using your Social Security number and assuming your identity."

The letter then directs people to a Web site that's designed to look like the agency's legitimate Web site.

Officials said that Web site then requires users to enter their Social Security number, credit card and bank information.

The agency reminds everyone that the Social Security Administration will never ask for your credit card information or your personal identification number.

If you receive this e-mail message, or would like to report other suspicious activity, contact the Social Security's Office of Inspector General by dialing (800) 269-0271, or visit their official Web site.
