Chapter 5. What to expect from Fort Wilderness.
This i think is a question alot of you may have. Weither you have camped or not, i bet there are very few of you reading who has stayed at FW.
One thing I am sure is that everyone has something that when it happens at Disney or when they think of it they say, yep "thats Disney to me." For some it is going under the sign for the first time. Or maybe it is that first ride on the monorail, or the smell of the monorail.
Walking down main street, or getting your favorite snack.
Well for me it is FW. i guess it is because we always i mean always stayed there growing up. We are a huge camping family. Growing up my parents took us everywhere camping see this country. I have been in 42 states growing up and Canada Camping a few times around some of the great lakes.
:Note: all of these pictures are hijacked from photobucket, my parents have allmost all of my pics from FW and they are in FL now so i dont hav access to them.
So it only came natural that when we would go to Disney world, we would stay in the camp ground.
Now where some people might feel this is a chore, or a hassel bringing your "hotel" with you, for us it is great.
If you think about it. The campground is much cheaper, during non peak time, you can get a great spot for about 50 bucks a night, still about 30 or so dollars cheaper a night than the value resorts. That adds to a good deal of money over a weeks trip, thus recycling that money back into staying at the campground longer for cheaper than other hotels and still getting all the benefits of the on property stay.
As long as I can remember all of trips to FW have been right around 2 weeks. It makes for a great vacation, you dont feel like you have to go in the parks each day, to get your moneys worth for going to disney.
You can take off days, or extra days in water parks and enjoy your trip more.
They just redid the pool area here (there are 2 pools)
Here is a view from on top of the new slide looking at the snack bar and the kiddy play area.
Here is a night shot of the pool area, and the new slide t hat was just installed.
There is an internal bus system that picks you up from almost every loop in the campground and takes you either to the front entrance, where you catch most busses to the parks, or to the back area of the campground and that is where the crocketts tavern, and hoop dee doo revue is located as well as a short walk to the boat launch.
It has its own boat launch to the MK and also has a seperate one that goes between FW Contemporary and FWL.
Every night there is a sing along that features a CM up in a chuck wagon singing to all the people seated around and chip and dale come out and join in the fun and see every kid.
these were also "borowwed pictures"
they have fire pits in front for you to cook smores and hot dogs on.
after the sing along, there is a short disney cartoon, and then everynight they show a full length disney movie for you to watch.
By the hoop dee doo revue area, there is a petting zoo called tri circle D.
There are many animals there, but they also house the cinderella horses here. and you can go and pet them and see them.
I will have many more pictures when we get back of our own experience there, but i just wanted to share with youguys what disney is to me and a little about where we are staying.
For christmas Candi got me the hidden magic of WDW book.
it has some pretty interesting stuff in it, some stuff that i already knew just from my general knowledge and some stuff i learned on the DIS.
I am going to end each chapter and probably have a daily DID you KNOW fact about Disney world.
Todays DID YOU KNOW.
todays are a little easy so you will get a few.
If you go inside tonys town square, and walk to the back of the restraunt you will find lady and the tramp enjoying a quite meal outside the back window.
this one i found pretty neat.
as you walk down main street, look at the streetlamps, they are gas lamps when you start out on main street, but at the end they turn into electric lamps to signal moving through time.
One more for Main street.
the window of frank wells is the highest on main street for his love of mountaineering. window is called Seven Summits Expeditions.
This book is pretty neat and i think a must have for a disney enthusiest.
