We (girlfriend's family) rescued a near new born deer laying on the road next to it's dead mother. Set up a bed in the old unused fireplace in the unfinished basement. Raised it up and let it go. We put an orange vest on it and could see it out in the woods with a herd of deer.I've been seeing some stories of people who take in birds or squirrels to help them, then when they get better and they gradually let them go, they sort of stick around and sometimes come back to visit!
My older son hand raised an abandoned baby squirrel. It bonded to him and will nip at anyone else who tries to interact with her. His original goal was to release it when it was old enough, but he is now concerned it would not know what danger was. Also, be aware, some municipalities do not allow people to take in wild animals as pets.
This little cutie begs to differ:
Squirrels are destructive vermin and we do everything we can do discourage them from being on our property. They are nothing more than rats with bushy tails.![]()
