Okay, is this just me, or has anyone else thought this. Both times I have gone to beaches & cream I get seated at the counter in front of the grill. This is not a good spot for me. Can you say paranoia over cross contamination? This is what I saw. Girl puts gloves on, puts raw burgers on grill, picks up seasoning and sprinkles with same gloves. Guy comes over a minute later, picks up seasoning, sprinkles, then picks up my daughters grilled cheese with his gloved hands and puts it on the plate. You guys following... the seasoning was touched with" raw meat" gloves, then someone else touched seasoning & dd's grilled cheese. I realize this is a slam jamming busy place but still I am totally bugged by that. Am I alone here?

You would hate to see what happens to your food in the Kitchen...

Yeah I would be grossed out too. I always fear food poisoning. I don't think I would ever want to see what goes on in restaurant kitchens :(

But the FDA mandates that gloves must be worn. As a deli owner I can tell you how hard it is to keep taking them on and off. I've had people come from the FDA and just watch. They didn't care what else you touched with the gloves as long as they were on :(

Raw meat is a different story though, they really should be extra careful with that.

You know, that has always bugged me. The gloves, I mean. DH is a restaurant manager here at home and I help him out a few hours a week. I always wonder what would happen if someone got too close to the grill and seared those gloves to their hands. I could never understand why OSHA hasn't labeled it a major hazard. Now I know the FDA mandates it. Wow, that is really hard to swallow. (I do believe you, though) I guess I should be happy that the FDA hasn't mandated it here at home, yet.

And Yuck! Cross contamination is right.

It is a "catch 22" situation for sure, but, I would definately contact Disney for comment if I had witnessed those techniques.
It is cross contamination- a disaster waiting to happen.
Figment

I must say that if it bothered you that much to see the way they handled the food you better stay at home and never eat out again!
I worked in a few restuarants in college and will never eat at those restuarants again. For example: checking the temp. of the soup by "dipping your finger in" licking it off, warming it up in the microwave, then dipping it in again to make sure it is just right for the customer! Also, lots of food is picked off plates and eaten before you see it, dropped on the floor and put back on.
Trust me, out of sight out of mind is a good thing here. You can't change it, so you have to deal with it! It is amazing that more people don't get sick when they eat out.

:p Do I see a"Do they wash the comforters.." thread in the making?

It's no big surprise about the questionable antics in restaurant kitchens thanks to news exposes, Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential etc.

You just have to go ahead and take the leap when you go out-and hope your system can combat all the little "baddies" your food encounters!:earseek: (some ARE shocking)

Beats doing dishes sometimes...

Was in a Subway one day and the guy behind the counter was cleaning up with a rag that reeked of bleach while wearing his gloves, then he turns around to me pulls out bread while wearing the same gloves and starts making a sandwich. YUCK!!! Completely freaked me out, I worked in a restaurant. I know they're not perfect, but that went too far.

I too have seen this happen. Sometimes I feel as though they think the gloves are to keep their hands clean. I work in nursing and change my gloves so many times I couldnt begin to count. In order to prevent cross contamination they should change their gloves each time they handle raw meat or eggs before touching anything else.

I always like my food better after they hand me my change with the gloves still on!!

They need separate seasoning shakers so the person handling meat is the only one with that seasoning.

If most of us were scrutinized in our kitchens, though we try to be be sanitary, I think we'd find we don't score perfect marks for sanitation either.

Someone commented to me that because our society is so diligent about sanitation we have a lower tolerance to bacteria which is why we have to be so careful when traveling abroad. By encountering some bacteria we build up defenses. I don't know that's the truth, but it makes sense.

Learned that lesson at various Waffle Houses! :teeth:

Sometimes ignorance is bliss! ;)

AMEN to ignorance is bliss! A friend of mine sent this to me this morning.. it makes this thread seem so... inconsequential! (warning.. it's really kinda gross! I've changed some of the wording to make it a little 'cleaner' - no pun intended ;) ) I apologize ahead of time if this offends anyone...

10 things you wish you didn't know (and I'd like to know who had too
much time on their hands to figure this out!)

1. During an hours swimming at a municipal pool you will ingest 1/12
litre of urine.

2. In an average day your hands will have come into indirect contact
with 15 mens sexual organs (touching door handles etc.)

3. An average persons yearly fast food intake will contain 12 pubic hairs.

4. In a year you will have swallowed 14 insects - while you slept!

5. Annually you will shake hands with 11 women who have recently
self-pleasured and failed to wash their hands.

6. Annually you will shake hands with 6 men who have recently self-pleasured and failed to wash their hands.

7.In a lifetime 22 workmen will have examined the contents of your
dirty linen basket.

8. At an average wedding reception you have a 1/100 chance of getting
a cold sore from one of the guests.

9. Daily you will breath in 1 litre of other peoples' anal gases. whew!

10. Sharing a bag of chips with a friend gives you a 10% chance of ingesting a small amount of their feces.
