or I guess I should say "HEARD" them? :scared1:

My DD7 and I were in the doctor's office yesterday - she has been suffering from HORRIBLE headaches which is why we were there. We were the only ones in the waiting room and I commented on how nice and quiet the office was...my mistake.

In walks a woman and her 1 year old. I heard a squeaking noise as they walked in...and then realized it was the little girls SHOES. EVERY SINGLE step she took the shoes squeaked. Not b/c of a defect in the shoes...they are made with a squaker in the hearl. My poor DD was already in tears for her headache and this about sent her over the edge. I was proud of her for not saying anything and being respectful but I was rather annoyed. I can't IMAGINE why someone would put those on their child to go into a doctor's office where other children don't feel well.

I looked online and they appear to be for vision impaired parents (which this woman was not) and that the shoe only squeaks when the child walks properly and can be reccomended by doctors. (I know my Doctor does not reccomend them based on the conversation I had with the nurse ;) ) She said they can be very disruptive to the practice.

I read the online testimonials and everyone on there said everyone comments on them all the time and people love them. Well, the nurse told me how much they all hated them and with her luck that would be her next patient!! When that little girl came back they of course said "OH what great shoes...I bet you always know where she is!!" I of course knew what she was really thinking!!! :rolleyes1

BUT - I thought maybe I could be open minded about this and see what my fellow Disers had to say about them....

I have about 6 pairs at home in my daughters baby box. We bought her leather squeeky shoes in China when we adopted her. The quality of the shoes were fantastic and at about $2 a pair US it was great deal. I wish I would have bought more in larger sizes. The little piece that makes them squeek does pop in and out on the side of the heal. I would pull the piece out when we did want them to squeek or if she was driving us nuts dancing around. She loved the noise. I did like them when I would let her walk in the mall because I could always keep a close eye on her.

Some people love them and some people hate them. They drove our dogs absolutely bonkers. I still get a little reminissant when I see a little one toddling around in them.

Wow...I had a pair when I was little! Didnt realize they are still around! In fact, it was a pair of Donald Duck shoes!

OMG

I experienced these shoes on a little girl at a wedding reception. They are horrible!!!

I think its cute for about 10 steps, then becomes really annoying! :headache:

Your poor DD!

That was my thought....

In the mall it might not be bad b/c she would have walked by and moved on not really impacting me - but when kids are sick - I was surprised to learn the squaker came out - I would think she should have removed them before she walked in...after all - that is a place of business!

Well i think the squecker shoes are so adorable on kids. My son who is 3 has a pair and he loves them and they fight him very well , which i have a problem finding shoes to fit. My firend actually sells them at a local farmers market.
Now saying what i said i have to agree that there is a time and a place for them. I will not let him wear them when we go to any doctors office, hospital, dentists, library etc. He can wear them at home or mall or grocery store or if we go on holidays.
I am really proud of your daughter for not saying anything and i sure hope her headaches go away.

My son had some when he was little. We loved them. The squeak wasn't very loud, though.

The only time I have ever see...or heard...them was at EPCOT. A very young child was toddling around in them. I could see them being very useful in a situation like that but for just around town, come on that could be very annoying for others around you...even at the grocery store.

Am I the only person on the planet that hasn't "heard" :lmao: of these shoes? Seriously I must be living under a rock... To me it just sounds as annoying as "wheelie" shoes.... :rolleyes1... jus' sayin'. (p.s. just to stop the flames before they start... I know there are some children that can and do use these shoes appropriately, that being said for every 1 of those children there are like 50 others that do not....I work in retail)

I was wondering the same thing. I've never seen or heard of them either. At least it's quiet under my rock! :rotfl2:

Nope, I never heard of them either. :confused3 I think I can certainly live without ever experiencing them too! don't like heelies either and will not purchase them for my son who wants them.

I have never heard them or heard of them before either!! It does not sound like anything I ever would have bought when my girls were younger.

My son had/has them. The reason he has them is because they encourage children to walk. He did not walk until he was almost 19 months old and when he did, it was just to hear those stupid things squeak! They are annoying, but do serve a purpose for some children who are delayed, either developmentally or otherwise. I do not know the circumstances under what the person in the OP's post was wearing the shoes, so I cannot comment on that. The squeakers can be disabled, but on some they can only be disabled permanently by breaking off a piece. Just wanted to tell you why we had them!

I personally like them. Even when there are 40 little girls wearing them at Chinese New Year :)

Well, I guess I lived under a rock until last week too! I have never seen (heard) the squeaker shoes until last week a little girl had them on in our hotel lobby. My DD11 thought they were the most adorable things once we figured out where the noise was coming from! :)

We had them too, for my DD who was a runner. It helped me know how close or far she was. That said, we wore them outside only.

My dd3 had two pair and they were just adorable. One pair dark pink leather mary janes with an orange daisy on the clasp with the green stem and leaf going down the strap. Precious! I don't know if the ones OP heard were exceptionally loud but my daughter's weren't noisy. She loved those little shoes but, as others have said, she didn't wear them everywhere. Even my dh loved them and I swear he has sensory sensitivity issues-every little noise drives him batty!

I think they're adorable... at theme parks...

I've seen them quite a bit over time at Disney, and think they're great for a park. Some times the characters get the kids to dance around just to listen to the kids squeak about. I could see them getting really annoying in a store or office like that.

Just goes down to, there's a time and a place for everything... if only every one know everything...
