Square trade for laptops?

Does anyone have any experience with them for laptop warranties? We have to replace our Dell (never again!) due to a motherboard going out after 14 mo. The place we looked at for a laptop today strongly recommends the extended warranty, which is pretty expensive. I priced it out through square trade and it's significantly less. However, I would feel better hearing from people who have had experiences with things being covered or not.

Help! We can't afford to buy a new laptop every other year.

Sorry - Squaretrade isn't able to issue policies in Wisconsin - so I don't have any experience with them at all.

I have heard that they often have "codes" out there, so you could potentially save even more than their listed prices.

DD is going off to college in a few weeks - in Illinois - and then we might be able to use them for her laptop and her printer.

I have ST warranties on all our laptops. We have had 2 replaced by ST. Both had broken screens and we purchased the accidental coverage. In both cases, I had the money in my paypal account within 10 days of filing claims. I assume that sometimes they have people send in their laptops to have them repaired, but with screens, they just gave us a refund and we bought a new one. I always use a code to get the warranty at a discount, and it is money well spent. I will say that you can't get accidental on a REFURBISHED laptop. Found that out after we bought DS' last one.

I had to return an Ipod to Best Buy under extended warranty and I thought they were going to ask for a blood sample. Seriously, it took an hour and million questions to get them to make good on their accidental damage warranty. Never again.

due to the rapid change in technology, usually outpacing the expiration of a warranty, it is VERY rare that you will actually get a new laptop -- they generally just refund the money and you go out and buy a new laptop
