Hi, we are thinking about going to DW the week of Christmas. This would be a spur of the moment trip. The last time we went was in 2007. I need help, don't know where to start!

Some of the things we are considering:

1) Staying offsite---what are some good but inexpensive places to stay? (We will be driving so we will have a car)

2) If we stay offsite what is best way to book a place?

3) Are there any good package deals going on now and if so where do you find these at?

4) Any good package deals staying onsite at any of the not so expensive places (Pop Century, etc...)

5) Are there any meal deals going on now/are they worth it? (Will be 3 adults and 2 kids, 11 & 6-one is a picky eater.)

6) Do they do deals on just the tickets to get in the parks?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

My advice, pick a different week!

This is the most crowded, most expensive time possible to go, especially if you want to stay on site.

The "deal" you will get is that Disney increases its food prices during this time at resort and theme park restaurants, and offers no or very limited discounts.

For saving on tickets, read up at mousesavers.com. You might be able to save a little -- but any savings on Disney tickets are hard to come by.

With five people, you can't stay at Pop Century in one room, or any other value resort, unless you book a suite. The cheapest single room you can get that holds five -- if its still available -- is at Port Orleans Riverside and you'll pay more than $300 a night.

For a week with 5 people looking to save money, I would recommend renting a time-share resort. You will have plenty of space and can have some meals at your resort. You may be able to snag a reservation on ebay for under $1,000 if you have some flexibility.

However, in the end, if you are on a budget, I would pick a different week.

UpatNoon, good points and thank you......

Our situation is that DH is off 3 days week of Christmas so that helps out a lot otherwise if we had to go a different week he is not offered vacation days so therefore he would not get paid for a whole week........so we are stuck going that week if we can do it :)

We also have 3 days off Christmas week so we decided to make the trip to WDW. We're staying offsite at Grand Beach Resort in a 3 bedroom unit with a full kitchen that we got on eBay for $600. There are some bargains for lodging on eBay but you have to be patient. Onsite is just way too expensive for us. Having a full kitchen allows us to cook/eat most meals there. When we're at the parks we'll grab a quick service meal, but most of our meals are eaten in the condo.
