Just thought I would share some pics of my trays of seedlings in my southern facing window. :)

Guess this is the official start of my photo journal for the 2003 gardening year. :)

Those look great! Mine don't look anything like that. I'm not very good at growing anything from seed but I continue to torture myself every year.

:earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy:

Sounds to me (based on your other thread) that you have been busy enough doing other "gardening"! :)

They look great, Laura!! Very healthy! :)

.Congratulations on 8000 posts, Bud!!! :) :)

Thank you so much for all that you contribute to this forum, Laura! Your cheerfulness and gardening savy are a real inspiration! :)

Good morning Dixie, Happy 8000!

My! My! like everything else you grow, why is it that your seedlings look like mine after they have been planted in the ground for months.

I need to see a pic of your thumbs, they have to be green. Fitting color for St. Patty's Day.

Are these the same seedlings that flipped upside down? Boy! I'm doing something wrong. My seedlings are tiny and scrawny. Maybe by the time growning season decides to arrive they will look half the size of yours. Looks like it will be a while before any yard work or planting goes on in my area. Still lots of snow, snow and more snow. Everytime I think (Oh boy it melting) we end up getting another 10-12 inches.

I think those are the healthiest looking seedlings I have ever seen! WOW!

What are they? They look like zinnias but I am probably WRONG!

Good eye TigH! They are mostly Zinnias. There is a flat of tomatoes on the far side - but pretty much out of the picture range. :)

Yes, the far left side tray is the one that got dumped upside down. They are a bit smaller as a result of their "trauma".

I attribute my seedling strength to a couple of things:

1) I use APS planters from gardeners supply. I really swear by these things - they work.
2) After the seedlings emerge I take the plastic covers off immediately - to avoid damping off.
3) About a week after emergence I use a very weak organic fertilizer on them. I continue to use it about every other week until I plant them out.
4) I use a full southern facing window and use a reflector (foil covered cardboard) behind the flats - so that each plant get's LOTS of sunshine.

I don't do lots of seed starting - but I have had good success with what little I do. My biggest problem is rushing them to the outside and getting caught by a late cold snap.
