Spring "What are you reading?" Book Thread

I'm reading:

Walt Disney: An American Original by Bob Thomas
The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

Faking It is only .99 on Kindle if anyone is interested. For .99... I think I'll have to check it out.

I LOVED The Help. Also, The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo and then The Girl Who Played with Fire. These can be hardish to get into but so good once you get through the first 30 pages.

I am also reading Faking It on my Kindle and like it for a "fluffy" summer read.

I am just about to read Still Alice for my book group. It looks fabulous.

I also highly recommend the entire "Shopaholic" series, read in order. So funny and eays to read. It was my summer reading last summer.

TallyTutter, I love Jude Deveraux as well! I have been re-reading her stuff lately.

I did just finish the Dean Koontz series Frankenstein. There are 3 books out right now with a 4th due in June. Just in time for my birthday!!! These are really good, suspensful books and I highly recommend them all!!

I've read Nora Roberts books, so a friend suggested J.D. Robb "in Death" series and I am really liking it. My Library didn't have 1-4 so I started with the 5th book. The others are on reserve. I like mysteries a lot.

I'm trying to find book 4 because I'm bound and determined to read them in order.

Currently reading Dear Joh/U] by Nicholas Sparks. Why are they making so many movies off of his books? I can think of so many others that are much more interesting to make movies of.

THEY ARE THE BEST!!!!!:dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3: I have been reading them from the beginning.........If you can get the first ones.....it is great seeing how Roarke (my personal :love:) and Eve meet. Plus you get background on some of the other characters.

Makes me want to reread them again........oh wait I just did that:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Just got House Rules by Jodie Picoult yesterday so looking forward to starting that, recently finished Castaways by Elin Hildabrandt, which I really enjoyed.

oh let me know how this book is... i have it on my wishlist and hoping it will be in ebook format soon

I'm glad you said this. I am about 25 pages or so into The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I wasn't sure if I should continue or not. I will give it another chance. Thanks!

Has anyone read Michael Chabon's Summerland? My DS12 got it for a birthday gift yesterday and I'm just wondering if anyone has any feedback. I have his book The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, but I have yet to read it.

Done with Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. I don't see it as a major motion picture, more like a made for tv or Hallmark movie.

Next in line is Lord of Chaos by Robert Jordan.

I have been working o reading the Debbie Maccomber Cedar Cove Series. I am on book four so far and would like to finish the series by the end of summer. Then onto Anne of Green Gables and then? Who knows. I have a Janet Oke series that I recieved for my bday last year so I gues maybe I should start that. I do tend to forget about my series books when a new Disney something comes out. That shouldnt be until August or September now so I might be okay.

This is our Spring of "renewal" for our family's eating habits. I just finished reading The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan. Which was amazing! It actually led me to do a little research, and we have an all-natural grass-only farm/market within 5 minutes of our house! Local veggies and naturally fed meats!

I'm now reading Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser.

I've read all of the Cedar Cove series thus far and enjoyed them. Janet Oke is another author that I like to read. One of her series has been made into movies.

I have no feedback on Summerland, but I read The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay a couple of months ago for my bookclub. It's long with a lot of detail but it was really interesting and brought up lots of good discussion.

Here are a few books I've recently enjoyed:

"The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie" by Alan Bradley - fun English mystery
"The Godmother" and "The Stepmother" by Carrie Adams - Chick-lit
"I Capture the Castle" by Dodie Smith - light fiction from 1920s
"The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency" by Alexander McCall - LOVED this one! Can't wait to get more.

A few that I've read recently that I really liked:

by Ann Patchett: Run and The Magician's Assistant
I didn't like Bel Canto but gave her another chance and really enjoyed both of these.

Everyday People by Stuart O'Nan: set in a inner city neighborhood in Pittsburgh in the mid 90's. he's a great writer, I've liked everything I've read of his.

Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates- really well done. I saw the movie after reading it and the book totally held up.

Where Men Win Glory by Jon Krakauer- really liked this book. It's the stroy of Pat Tillman (the AZ football player who joined the army after 9/11). it's not an easy read (it's disturbing), but it's very inspiring.

I'm currently re-reading The Book Borrower by Alice Mathison for my book club. I really enjoyed this one. It has a story w/in a story that all ties together. It is a unique plot.

I went and looked over our new Half Priced Books store. So many books, so little time and even less money.

We are leaving for WDW tomorrow and of course had to visit the bookstore for the trip. I got Little Bee, Look Again, and Sarah's Key - don't know which 2 to bring they all seem so good - any suggestions?

Sarah's key is amazing but sad. it is disturbing and enlightening all at once. i did not want to put it down...def one of those books that you stay up until 2 am reading because you can't stop!

i'm a nora roberts, jude devereaux, charlaine harris (sookie stackhouse) kind of reader,
here are some books that i loved not by those authors:
Nerfertiti, Cleopatra's daughter, and herectic queen by Michelle Moran - very well writen and interesting plus i got a history lesson!
Garden Spells and Sugar Queen by Sarah addison allen. both stories of women's relationships but very funny w/a touch of magic thrown in.
Grave secrets is the latest in the mystery series by Charlaine Harris (sookie stackhouse)
Marcia Muller's series about a woman pi in san francisco is very good except the very earliest ones
Blue Bloods by Melissa de la cruz is a YA book but very good - different than the twilight series but on the same idea

I've read many glowing reviews for Summerland, but I've seen it pop up on a list of "most overrated books" and a list of "worst baseball books" too... so go figure.

I thought it would be a sure hit for my DS14 since he's a baseball fanatic who also enjoys the fantasy genre. But for whatever reason he struggled a bit to get into the book, and he came away thinking it was just OK.

I do plan to read it one day, but maybe because of my DS's reaction, it keeps getting bumped further and further down my list.
