Spring break at DL---are we crazy??? 3/20-3/29 PTR--updated 4/8

Me likey the bag...... and the color is awesome!!!
Dis lime green! I was debating between this color and the black, but thought it would be fun to do something more bright, different and didn't match with anything---you know, so that way it goes with everything! LOL

I totally second that!!
I hope I don't look like a dork, carrying it in front when it should be towards the back. LOL I tend to go more with comfort than style...:rolleyes1

I'll be looking forward to hearing how the bag works for you. My DH usually carries a awfully big bag around that he likes. If I'm going to be w/o him for a couple days I'd like a smaller handier bag.
I have heard awesome things about it on the DIS, most like it, some don't (due to the way it fits across the front), but the bag I had didn't quite fit everything that I would like, so I figured its time. Its a baggallilni bag, and on their site its 44 before tax and shipping, but I was able to get it for $24.00 including free shipping, so I was happy for it to be less....especially since I don't know how I'll like it yet. :)

Our hoppers came yesterday, our hoppers came yesterday! :cool1:  :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2:

Also in the same shipment, I got my baggallini messenger bag (pictured above). I was so surprised it came so quick, with it being free shipping and all! I can already tell that I will like it. I haven't carried it around all day with me in the parks, but it has alot of inside pockets that are just the right size for cell phones, sunglasses, it has a thing you can connect your keys in so they won't be loose, and a bunch of pockets, some with zippers etc that can be perfect for tickets/fastpasses.

My 12 year old daughter saw it and immediately wants one too, so I will probably order DD14 and DD12 one too----hoping it will make it before next Friday! They are getting to the age where they like carrying their own stuff. LOL

I also have been starting to go over my daily plans, etc...I am getting nervous, but I think I can do it. 8 more days 8 more days! (I don't count the day we leave! LOL):hyper: :hyper:

Heck, I love the idea of not counting the day you leave. I need to practice that ...

Oh, and wearing the bag like that doesn't sound dorky. I'll carry a backpack like that if I can swing it around without choking myself. You're right - it's a lot more comfortable!

:cool1: And let's not forgot the PH's!! That's cause for celebration right there :cool1:

It is! Wooo hoooo! I have been doing the PH dance ever since they came!! :yay:

I am starting to get my binder all put together (after reading Diznee Luver's binder idea, I realized that this would be great info to have!) We NEED to have the menus for the parks and DTD.....this caused alot of stress on us last time. We would think "oh, let's go to ____________ they've got to have chicken strips"....then we get there, and they don't. Our kids are picky, so it is nice to know who has what. Just printed out the last few pages today.

Also doing a tentative itinerary, so we know where and when to jump start the day and fit it all in!!
I am bad though...I still haven't made PS's yet....bad...bad. Hope they have some left!

We are starting the packing stages today...I guess we should when we are leaving day after tomorrow! Yikes, is it getting that time already??

Have to get the car all in good shape...taking it for our yearly emmissions testing today, have to get an oil change, clean it out, etc for our long long drive to Las Vegas. We had family visit last weekend, so we have no more weekends to get things done. It will have to all be done around work, school, activities etc....so I know time will go by fast! I keep bugging the kids to pick out movies and get their things rounded up, but they aren't doing it. I really did not want things to be all cramming at the last minute, but that is what it is starting to look like.

At least when family came a few days ago, we were able to get the majority of the cleaning done...so now its just all the laundry too.....uuuuugh! :laundy:

Wow! Leaving the day after TOMORROW!! Talk about exciting. I don't know how anyone can put off paking that long. I would be going crazy, lol.

Hi Michelle! Cool - I made it before you left :woohoo:

Great pics of you and the fam, love the comment about your DS being your own little stitch :lmao:

I like your itinerary and that you're actually going to get some relaxed time at the beach before you hit the parks. Good luck convincing your DH to do more DL days.

I agree about the hotel thing, we've stayed at hotels on Harbor and have been very pleased. We're doing DLH this time to get the experience of it, but I imagine the next time we go we'll be back at Park Place or Carosel or one of the others on Harbor.

Cool shots of your August trip, especially of the eclectric light parade.

Did all of the stuff you ordered come in on time? Good luck with the packing and have a great time!!! Can't wait to see this turn into your TR - have fun take lots of pics! :goodvibes

Have an AWESOME trip!!! I will sit here patiently waiting for your return & trip report!! :surfweb:

Looking forward to your TR! I just looked through most of your TR from your cruise to Barcelona. We are planning our first cruise. Wow, what an amazing trip you had.:goodvibes

Day 1: Arrival:
We are here!!! (Well we are not at Disneyland yet technically, but in southern California.)

The drive down was totally uneventful and surprisingly the traffic not bad at all! We left from Las Vegas a little after noon....like 12:30? and got to Laguna Beach at abouit 4:45 or so. I was worried about the traffic down, you know, the LV to LA traffic nightmare, but they made alot of it 3 lanes now instead of 2 like it was last time we drove down in 2005....so it was alot better! The area of Laguna beach is beautiful...we went on a toll road that hardly anyone was on, and it was so isolated and the coutryside mountainy and green.

Since tomorrow (Sunday) is supposed to be rainy, and that was our only "beach day" and the whole rest of the week sunny and clear, we were thinking of switching our beach day to Monday, and going to Disneyland on Sunday. We were going to go to Disneyland Monday-Friday.....I am trying to be an optimist and hope more will stay away tomorrow if its supposed to be rainy??? (I am usually the kind that prays for rain and bad weather on my disney trips---to keep crowds away. LOL!) But I am nervous it still being a weekend, and spring break time....decisions decisions. I still feel confident in my planning though, so I think we should be ok regardless.

The kids have been having a blast going out on the balcony and watching the ocean, as well as going downstairs and playing in the sand. It is a little too chilly to swim, but being from Boise, and the majority of our days still being in the 30s, this is nothing to us. It feels good!

We are about to go and eat, and the rest of my family, mom, 2 sisters and a sister's husband will be arriving Monday, so even though it is a beach day for us, we will probably go in and meet them for Rainforest Cafe or something. It would be a GREAT character dinner day, but my kids are duds, remember. Great time to explore Downtown Disney though!

I am so excited to be here, and maybe even heading to the parks tomorrow!!!! WOW! Whether we will choose it for a MM or just heading to California Adventures for the day remains to be seen. Wish us luck, and I will report how crowds etc is tomorrow. While we are at the condo, we have free internet. :woohoo:

My DH gets mad at me all the time for putting it off so late. No matter how excited I am, I always procrastinate with packing. In fact, we kind of got snippy with each other on the way out because something or other kept delaying us. We were wanting to leave not much after 1:00 pm, but it ended up being about 2:30pm....Yikes!

Thanks so much! The things we did did come on time, and the girls love their new bags like mine. We got bright turquoise and bright pink.

And I love the DLH. I wish we could stay there this time, but it was too much....maybe next time!

Have an AWESOME trip!!! I will sit here patiently waiting for your return & trip report!! :surfweb:
Like I did with yours! Thanks, I am really excited!

Looking forward to your TR! I just looked through most of your TR from your cruise to Barcelona. We are planning our first cruise. Wow, what an amazing trip you had.:goodvibes
It was probably one of my most favorite cruises of all, and I have been on 7 of them. You will LOVE your first cruise, but like I tell all people I refer to a Disney cruise, prepare to be addicted!

I will wait patiently for your TR also. :surfweb:
Thanks so much!

Live Report! Yeah:cool1: Glad your drive went well. Hope Mon. turns out to be sunny for a beach day.:cool2: Looking forward to hearing more.

Is it Spring break for you guys in LV or Spring break in LA? I hope it's spring break for most of the schools in LA now.

We're going for a family Disney visit April 6th to 11th and everybody has been saying that's spring break down there and it will be super busy.

Enjoy your visit.:)

Glad you got there safe & if your only problem this trip is deciding whether to do Disneyland or the beach....you'll have a great time!!!!! So Exciting !!!

It is turning out to be a live report, since our first few nights in this condo we have free internet! YAY!
And so far, it was like clockwork....rainy yesterday morning, and WINDY at the beach. Today, looks hardly windy, and while it will not get too warm, it will be in the high 60s which will be great for us!

Thanks so much! We are from Idaho, and it is going to be our spring break this coming week 23-27. Unfortunately, it will be alot of California and I am sure alot of Nevada's spring breaks that week before Easter. That is the reason we are braving our spring break this year because it is farther from Easter. With some good planning you can still have a good time though! We went yesterday on a weekend, in the middle of 2 spring breaks and the end of a HUGE cheerleader convention (we did see them in the parks, but they were not a problem at all) and had a great time!

Glad you got there safe & if your only problem this trip is deciding whether to do Disneyland or the beach....you'll have a great time!!!!! So Exciting !!!

Thanks so much! We have been totally worn out from yesterday because we have been having such a great time! (Going down, I truly did not think that would be possible at this time of year, but so far, so good!)

I'm onboard :woohoo: Looking forward to reading all about your adventures in California :cool1:

I have missed you Cass...thinking of pming you to see how thing are going, but my inbox is full, guess I need to clean it out. LOL

Sorry everyone at taking some time after getting home. I was going to work on posting as much as I can today to catch up!

Sunday, March 22: THis will be my most detailed day wordwise, because I didn't really keep any notes the rest of the days. So today may seem long and detaled, but the others won't be as bad. LOL

We decided to switch our beach day on Monday, because our original beach day on Sunday was going to be rainy and windy most of the day. And if its rainy and windy where is the best place to be???? Disneyland!!! And boy, did we make the right decision. Sunday was the best fluke day ever!!!

I think if you told me before, that our best day at the park would be on a weekend in between spring breaks, I would have thought you were crazy! But it was true! The rain kept everyone away in the morning. We did end up using to Magic Morning that morning and I am glad we did. We headed out of the condo door late (Laguna beach is about a half hour away from Disneyland). MM was at 7:00 am :scared1:
I think the kids have realized how important my Disney words of wisdom are by now, and they never question or argue with me over getting up early anymore. LOL And I have teenagers!!!

There were not many people in line at the turnstiles that morning, and it drizzled on and off while we waited for the park to open at 7. Even DH and my other 2 kids who went with him to go and park were able to catch up with us at the gate, which surprised me.

The #1 think I loved about Sunday that I was unfortunately not going to see again until Friday. was that they let us in from the turnstiles and not from the blasted Main street rope. :headache: That was soemthing I loved about our summer trip...the 8:00 openings with MM being at 7, and always opening from the turnstiles.
I go on about this, because for the other 3 days of our trip, it really made a huge difference. I hate when Disney does it, no matter what the reason for it is. LOL :headache:

As we were walking, and were ahead of everyone, I kept asking everyone (I actually asked them several times before the trip) if they were SURE that they did not want to go on Finding Nemo this trip, because now would be the best time to do it! They all said no, and we were ok skipping it this trip since we had gone on it just in August, so we headed on our merry way.

DH and DS6 headed for Peter Pan (they were number 3), the other kids and I headed for Matterhorn. We were the first bobsleds out, and we chose the farther side (we like the left side better).

Afterwards, we all met up and did Space Mountain. We could not get a FP for it yet because they do not have it going until regular park opening, so I would come back later for that. It was about 7:25, and suddenly DS6 decides he wants to do the Nemo subs. WHAT?? :scared1: Why didnt you tell me this earlier, and we would have headed there first!! OY....

I decided to go over there and check it out while DH and the 3 older kids went on Space Mountain again. When we got to Nemo, I was thinking it would be about a half hour wait, and it didn't look too bad, but the line was not moving for about 5 minutes, so I thought, nah, this is a slow loader, let's do it another time. Right when we were going to turn around, the line moved, and they loaded into the lines for the next 2 subs. Just as the 2 that loaded before us left, the next 2 come pulling up! We got on the next subs...we probably only waited about 5 minutes, and were on the ride by 7:35 and off the ride by 7:50!
By the time we met up with the others, they had done Space Mountain 2 times and Buzz Lightyear. Good morning so far!

We headed over just as they were opening Adventureland a little late at 8:05am. I grabbed FP for it, and we joined the regular line. We waited about 10 minutes for it.
We then went on BTMRR --(5 min wait)
POC--got our own boat. What?? :goodvibes
Haunted Mansion 2 times (since DS6 won't go on it, each of us took turns with him, while the older kids went on it each time. We tried to take him on Winnie the Pooh, but it was down at the time.)

By this time, it was raining on and off, so we grabbed a churro for whoever wanted one, went on Indy again with our fastpasses, and decided to see the new Small World ride. It was about 10:00 am, and it had a 5 minute wait, and by now it had stopped raining for the day.

At about 10:30 we entered California Adventures. We grabbed some fastpasses and immediately had lunch at Taste Pilots when it opened at 11:00 am.
At 11:45, DS16 and I did California Screamin (about a 15 minute wait) while the others went on Mulholland Madness. This ended up being DS6's favorite ride.
At about 12:15, we used our Soarin fastpasses and the standby line had about a 60 minute wait.
We also had picked up Tower of Terror fastpasses at some point, and used those at around 12:50 and walked on when it had a standby 35 minute wait.

As we exited this ride, the sun was pretty much out and the crowds were coming! We grabbed another set of FPs before we left, and decided to go all the way back to the condo. We had had a busy and great day, and it was catching up with the kids, and the crowds were starting to get thick...didn't feel like battling them.
We left at 1:30 and a parking tram was already there and loading. We were at the parking structure very quickly, and the kids crashed almost the second we hit the car. LOL

We took naps and a huge break at the condo which was mostly spent sleeping (the beach was VERY windy and chilly today, so we mostly stayed indoors). We could have called it a day, but the kids were wanting to go back, and we had alot of fastpasses in hand before we left. We arrived back in the parks at about 6:45 and were parked in the Timon parking lot.

7:00 Tower of Terror (FP)
7:30 - 8:00 Toy Story Mania (it said 45 minute wait, but it was only 30)
8:15 Screamin 2 times (I think DH, DD12 and DS6 split off and did Mulholland Madness again.)
9:00 right at park closing, we used our FP for Soarin and we got our own section, so we got to take our pick of whatever seats we wanted in C. We chose row 1 of course, and put the kids right at the side closest to the center. These seats closest to the aisle, were even better than section B because they jut out farther. Even the standby wait wasn't that long.

We did head over to Disneyland after CA closed and went on BTMRR which was about a 10 minute wait.
Splash Mountain, we walked right on and had our own log with 4 of us. When the ride was done, they asked if we wanted to stay on and go again! (That was never going to happen the rest of the time. LOL) We did not do it because DH and DS6 were waiting for us.
We used our last set of Indy fastpasses at 10:00, but it still had about a 20 minute wait. I have noticed even with fastpasses, the wait is usually always this long. Kind of like Soarin.

We called it a night after this, thank goodness tomorrow was a sleep in day and could relax the whole day. I was also very happy the next time we were going the parks, we would have a hotel conveniently across the street to take a break at. We would still have to drive from Laguna beach Tuesday morning though. :(

I will edit and add in pictures in a little bit, I have to upload them to photobucket first. Stay tuned.

Before I move on to day #2, I want to give a summary of my thoughts on the trip as a whole, and other general observations that I noticed. What I would do again, what I wouldn't etc while it is fresh in my mind.

1. All the CMs we encountered were so friendly! I was noticing it the entire trip and was so happy. Great and accomodating CMs, from the park operators, to the food stands and restaraunts. My sister had one rude CM at an ice cream place, but we never had any. All so nice!

2. We LOVE having a hotel right across the street as opposed to driving to the parks. We only did it this once to accomodate the Laguna Beach condo, but the convenience was much easier. We really liked the Park Vue Inn and would stay there again.

3. Our timing on things was extremely lucky, especially considering the time of year we went.

4. Club 33 was an awesome experience, but with the cost involved, once was good enough for us, at least for the time being. Great experience though!

5. I was pretty upset that the park hours were 9-11 instead of 8-12. The crowds definitely warranted it, and I think Disney was either uprepared, or making cut backs. I hope it was the former. When we went in summer (August) the crowds were just the same, if not less, and the 8-12 hours definitely helped!

6. I LOVED the kids not missing any school. Would I choose this time of year again? Depending on where Easter fell, and other factors, maybe, but DH was making it seem like he would not want to and would rather have kids miss school. It all comes down to the pros and cons.

7. The first half of the days were great! We had plenty of fastpasses to make it worth going back in the afternoon/evening, but it was getting where you wanted to go that was the problem. Ride wait times and going on rides were never an issue, it was battling through the crowds to get to the rides that made it hard and draining.

8. They had those rides CRANKING at full capacity! :thumbsup2 Not quite as early in the day as I would have liked, but it didn't impact things much.
I would see the Pirates ride backed up on both sides all the way to the entrance, and it looked packed, but we decided what the heck and went into it, but it wasn't more than a 10 minute wait. They had all elevators on ToT and HM going, both sides on Soarin, Indy, Small World, all of them. We truly never waited longer than 15-20 minutes on any ride except Toy Story, and even that went by really fast.

9. Driving was really long....it was nice to break it up and visit family in Las Vegas. It was still alot cheaper than 6 of us flying though.

10. We did not eat at as many restaraunts and enjoy good food as much as I would have liked. I really wanted to go to Cafe Orleans, Carnation Cafe, Goofy's Kitchen and Rainforest Cafe, even House of Blues, but grab and go was so much easier with our picky kids. We just never made it over to that area of Downtown Disney. Maybe next time....at least we have done all of them before except Cafes' Carnation and Orleans. Definitely next time.

11. The crowds in the walkways and streets made it really hard to just stop and smell the roses. It seemed like it was always fighting to get somewhere, and earlier in the day, it was hurrying too much to take advantage of before the crowds came. I did not even get to go through the Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthrough...I still don't know how THAT happened!!

12. We did choose consciously to not go to any of the evening entertainment (Fireworks and Fantasmic). We did NOT feel up to battling that, and we had seen them many times before, even have them recorded, so we made it way easier on us.

13. They have the music for the fireworks piped in to the main courtyard espalande area now! DS6 is enthralled with fireworks, and so on the last night, I took him over to just see them from the courtyard...I knew that would be good enough for us, so it was a very pleasant experience to hear the music too. A great alternative to see them, without being in the crowd gridlock afterwards.

14. We saw the new parade, and it was so not worth waiting around for it. Only myself, DD14 and my 2 sisters and mom did. I am very glad that my other kids and DH did not, but of course they are not the sit and wait for parade types either. This is just our opinions, but we did not like it. I loved the previous one so much better. I guess I am not into the get up and dance in front of everyone type of person. Also, if you were not in just the right locations, you could not really see it well except for in passing. The first stop was just short of us, and the next stop, we were at the very tail end, and just saw the tail end of the float. That is one I will not take time to see again. I thought it was lame....sorry to those that like it, it's just my family's opinion. There was a supposed "Disney big wig" that was there to watch the premiere who sat next to me, and he did not like it either. More on this to come.....

15. Thursday and Friday, especially Friday, we did see alot of cheerleader groups, but never until later in the afternoons/evenings. And even then, they were not any disturbance at all. We never even encountered groups waiting in the lines, just mostly going into the parks, and walking in the walkways...that's about it. On Friday night after the fireworks, we did see FLOODS of them entering in the parks at about 10 pm. It never affected us though.

That's about it... all in all, considering the crazy time of year, things could not have gone any better, and it could have been alot worse. We had a great time, and I think I have completely conquered my crowd phobia and can handle anything now. Even DH was very impressed. LOL
