Spring Break 2023 - When to book?

My family of 5 would like to go to Aulani during spring break 2023. When's the best time to book? Do I reserve the hotel now (1 year in advance)? If a sale comes along later, can I take advantage of it if I book the trip today?

I'm excited to start planning this trip and am not sure how to time it all.

I'm all for booking travel as soon as we've finalized our itinerary...or when my DW signs off on the planning. It's been awhile since we've booked cash nights at a Disney resort, but I'm not aware of any risk in booking now and rebooking if a better room rate should become available. Double check the cancellation policy to be sure.

If you’re booking direct through the resort I would think booking earlier has no downside. As you can always rebook if a promo comes along. Just confirm the cancellation policy. Usually it’s 5+ days. But with covid I don’t know anymore.

If you’re renting points however, book as early as possible when your date is set in stone. As modification for reservation made by points is extremely limited.

Booking through an agent like Dreams would mean that you could get adjustments to your booking cost if a deal were to come out but honestly the major travel periods like spring break seem to be the ones that don’t need deals for Disney properties to fill up. Therefore they are not offered as frequently.

I agree with with booking now if booking direct. We used a mix of our dvc points and rented points this spring break but I kept a close eye on the prices of direct for future trips. They did end up releases something like 25% off for most of our dates in April but it came out only a few months before April. By the time it came out the room we would need was booked.
Better to have what you want now then possibly missing out.
