Me (15 Male) and my sister (18) are spending 4 days in the parks over spring break and we are super excited but a bit nervous about the insanity of the crowds. We are Disney veterans and have been many times and once over spring break but I was a lot younger. I've heard horror stories about the crowd level over spring break and I was wondering how bad is it really? and what are some things you like to do when the crowds get really out of hand?

Thanks for any help!

It will be busy, but not epic. "Spring Break" is spread out among 7 weeks between March and April. It's not like Christmas or Thanksgiving where everyone is funneled into the same vacation days.

You could consider doing a touring plan using a website, like Touring Plans. It could really help with the crowds. Getting there at rope drop is also helpful. It probably won't be more crowded than in summer.

We have been there over spring break several times in the middle of March. It is busy, but nothing like it is at Christmastime. It seems to get the busiest in the middle of the day and at that time, we like to go back to our hotel for a little bit or ride some of the attractions that we do not normally do on other Disney trips such as the carousel of progress, Tommorrowland transit authority, the riverboat, and Tom Sawyer's Island. Also, go to the park that does not have extra magic hours that day, especially if it is the Magic Kingdom.

We were there last spring break and learned a valuable lesson about the MK on our last day. After Wishes, the park completely empties. Plan on going from about 10pm-1am, and most rides are walk ons or less than 10 minute waits.

We're going mid-March for spring break this year (and did the same thing last year).

Spring breaks are always spread out, though. K-12 spring breaks are normally around Easter/ Passover, while college spring breaks are mostly in March around the halfway point of the semester and not tied to the religious holidays.

Who has spring break when doesn't totally depend upon the grade. A lot of schools in Texas have Spring Break during the 2nd or 3rd week in March. Most schools in Austin have it during SXSW, which is also when UT has theirs. This seems to line up with St Patrick's day pretty regularly. By April, a lot of Texas is already into summer, so I think that's partly why it happens earlier than some of the colder/northern states.

We've gone the second week of March a couple of times, and it seems like every other person we run into is from Texas (as are we). I think Austin is just about the only big district in the state that doesn't have spring break the second week in March.

Lots of (maybe even most?) southern states have earlier spring breaks that aren't tied to Easter. I know that's true for other parts of the country as well.
