I have been on Weight Watchers for two weeks now and will bestarting P90X on January 1st.

What exercize programs are others doing, and is a P90X thread feasible?

Dave

Hi Dave--my dh has looked at p90x and I've heard good things about it, but we haven't tried it. If you don't get any responses on this side, maybe post on the events side of the WISH boards and see if anyone has done it.

I started off in January almost exclusively on the elliptical. My exercise goal for January was 720 min and I hit 1166. In February I added in strength classes--most weeks twice a week. It was brutal at first, especially on my knees, but as I lost more weight it got easier. I started adding a little more treadmill in during Feb. and March.

My DH ran a 1/2 in April and all spring kept saying that we should run together--I used to run (in my younger days;)) but never made it past 5 miles due to injuries. So I humored him.:thumbsup2 I really didn't think it would last long. We ran together all summer and I have run a couple of 5ks, a 10k and 2 half marathons. My next half is at the end of February.

Currently I am working out on average 5 or 6 days a week. Usually 3 runs, and two strengths and a couple of crosstraining days--I double up a lot on strength days. I think whatever you end up doing, a combination of strength and cardio is the key. And listen to your body. If something hurts, stop. Get good shoes, and make sure you are eating to fuel your body. My DS is 19 and can get away with sporadic exercise and eating what he wants. I can't. And as my workouts get longer and longer I really know it when I am not eating well.

Start slow, and hopefully a year from now you will be posting on someone's thread about what worked for you in the new year.:goodvibes

Dave here is a link to a P90X thread that was on the WISH boards earlier this year. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=38126574&postcount=1 There isn't a whole lot of info but it does include a post from Coach Charles who is a wonderful asset that we have on the WISH boards.

I imagine that there will be a January exercise challenge minutes thread -- you might want to check out the December thread.

Your thread right here may turn into the exercise discussion for BL. :goodvibes

My exercise program now is exclusively getting ready for the Princess. I've heard lots of good things about P90X.

Good luck!

P90X is a great program, I'm in my third round of it right now. actually, doinga hybrid of P90X and Insanity (which I did this past summer), because I didn't really like the P90X cardio workouts, but love the resistance workouts. If you stick with it, you will see results, but it is NOT easy. Just hang in there and don't get discouraged in the early days.

My next round will be Volume 1 of Tony horton's One on One series, which seems to be aimed at p90x grads. Looking forward to starting that in February

A thread for Beachbody products might be a little more appealing than just P90x , seems as if folks around here have done one or more BB programs, but not necessarily p90x.

Dave, it's the 2nd; did you start?! I'm on day 11 of p90x. I did it a couple years ago and lost 20 pounds in the first 60 days! I then went to WDW and stopped doing it! I've since had my second son and am starting over again. I am on team Mickey, as I think you are! We can support each other through the program! The soreness is a bit less this week, and I already see improvement in some of the moves. I HATE AbRipper Sucks (as we call it), but I've even been able to do more of the reps this week! Let me know if you started and how it is going! =)

I need a lot of cardio to lose weight, and I have to add in more than just the p90x workouts. I plan on running or doing cardioX on lifting days and maybe on rest day (this is how I did it the first time too). I haven't lost any weight during these 11 days, and I've only run once!

Denise =)

What is the diet part of P90X like? Is it basically a low carb, low fat, high protein diet? :confused3

Also, is the average workout about 90 minutes?

I've been doing some research online, and I even found the pre-test you are supposed to take to see if you are fit enough to start P90X (I can do everything except for the pull-ups), but I haven't been able to find the answers to the 2 questions above.

Thanks!

The diet has three phases just like the workouts. It starts out very low carb for 30 days, is more balanced the next 30 days, and is high carb "for energy" for the last 30 days. I am not following the diet. I am just eating a healthy 1500 calories (about) each day.

Also, is the average workout about 90 minutes?

The three strength days are about an hour plus 20 minutes of abs.
The two cardio days are about an hour.
The yoga x is 1 hour 32 min.

Good luck if you go for it! DH and I are on day 18, and it continues to get easier (NOT easy!) =)
