Spring 2015 Dapper Day

There are so many amazing vintage disney sheets/fabrics on ebay. I went searching for the Mickey paint-a-rainbow sheets for my daughters dapper day dress and a bunch of others popped up. It was hard not to get sidetracked.

Uh oh! Shouldn't have told me that! Now I've gotta go look!

Whoever...we have plans to have Kate&Ella drinks by the fireplace too. Our other friend going with us told us about them. They're named after the 2 sisters that Katella was named after.:thumbsup2

My wife has a Disney fabric addiction.

If I knew how to sew, I would have one too! This time around, I bought the fabric and then found someone on Etsy to make me the dress. Unless you sew, it's too expensive a habit!

I almost shelved the paint-a-rainbow dress after I found the most adorable vintage Bambi fabric/sheet. I still wish I would have bought it anyway...

I'll pass your request along to the wife and see what she comes up with. She makes her DD outfit every year, and components of mine as well.

Thank you!

I make skirts and dresses out of vintage Disney sheets, fabrics, etc. all the time. (I have a Mickey one I'm going to wear for Dapper Day... or maybe my Marvel dress, so many options it's hard to decide.)

By and far my favourite pattern is a simple dirndl skirt. Very easy to self draft. All you need is your waist measurement. Here's a good tutorial to use.

I've also made basic blouses as well with vintage Disney prints, they pair well with a simple black pencil skirt.

That looks perfect! I have never been able to sew, despite trying to learn several times, but fortunately I have a friend who is very talented so we swap skills from time to time. I bake bread and desserts for her, and she helps me with all my sewing projects. I sent her the link and she said we'll have it done in no time!

I just got sucked in, thinking of all the possibilities! Now that we've got these Pooh sheets, I started thinking it would be fun to have Mickey, too, and got completely sucked into the eBay listings.

A neighbor heard that DS and I both love pooh, so she dropped off this bag of vintage sheets and a couple old stuffed animals for us. If we have enough of the fabric, I think we'll have to make a Hawaiian-style shirt for DS out of it, too.

I love the dirndl pattern!! That's really cute and I think I could handle sewing one of those. Vintage sheets is such a great way to repurpose and get nice fabric to boot!

Whoever, besides the fact that dining at the club = $100 or more each, we weren't sure we wanted to use up that much of our day. I really wish we could go into the lounge! That would be perfect, but I do at least hope to get a picture of me next to the gates. I sure hope my dress ends up looking like them! I'm really nervous about starting the appliques. I'm going to do a test run tomorrow.

Hey I have an idea! Whoever, you make the ressies and eat at the Club and DizMe and I will just follow you in for pics in the Court of Angels! Deal?!

Hmmm... Tell me more...

I'm sure the dress will turn out just astounding. I hear you on the cost for 33 even if you can get a ressie on a weekend (I really lucked out last time).

I'll be doing SH55 for breakfast Saturday so at least I'll add a new dining location to my experiences.

I've never had the Kate & Ella drink, Whoever, so I'll have to tell you about it after we have one. :) Thank you to our friend Leslie for telling us about it.:thumbsup2 I did find this online though...

"Can you keep a secret? The elegant Napa Rose Restaurant in the Grand Californian Hotel at the Disneyland Resort has a secret cocktail you won’t find on the menu, but can only order by name. Created by the Disney mixologists at the Napa Rose, the “Kate & Ella” (a citrus-y martini-style beverage) is a delicious tribute to some local Anaheim history. In the late 1800s, John and Margaret Rea, and
their daughters Kate and Ella, owned and worked a vast walnut farm on land where the hotel and restaurant currently sit. Katella Avenue, which borders the southern edge of the Disneyland Resort, is a combination of the girls’ names.
Some fifty years later, Walt Disney purchased a portion of the original Rea ranch land, and today it encompasses a small chunk of Disneyland Park (including the Jungle Cruise “hipo pool”), all of Downtown Disney, nearly half of DCA (River Rapids, Paradise Pier, etc) and the entire Anaheim Convention Center!

If you dine at Napa Rose, raise a glass to Kate & Ella and think of all those beautiful walnut trees that used to grow right where you’re sitting!

Just don’t tell anyone. This is our secret!"

Thank you!

Here is the pattern she used for her dress for last dapper day

Only thing was she couldn't maximize the pattern of the fabric on a circle skirt so she did a straight gathered skirt. Used less than two yards of 54" fabric, which would be less than a sheet set.

Here's some pics of the dress:

I think we shall have to swing in and get one or two... Thanks for the head's up.

We should swing in together and get one! We're staying at DLH so you can also meet us there for a Trader Sam's run.

However, we don't have much time this trip. We come in Sat and leave Mon. We couldn't get the morning flight we wanted on Sat and the one before that meant we'd have to get up at 2:30 so we opted for the 11:something flight. We won't arrive until 1 or thereabouts. We originally booked GCH but decided to try DLH this time, partly because of all of the comments about how crazy busy the Grand was last time.

And you're very kind to have such confidence in my dress creating skills but I'm no Amy! I am in awe of her abilities.

I'm sure we'll be over at Sam's at some point during the weekend. Probably Friday night, but I doubt we'll get an easy seat given we aren't leaving Phoenix until after 2PM. I'm seriously thinking it would be great to do Napa. Katherine really wants to go. She could stay up that late, and is the most mature, so maybe we will actually do that.

Let me know how it goes. We keep debating the DLH, but always end up at the Grand. We just don't want the walk. We are on tight time too. Leave Phx after 2PM on Friday, get back before Midnight Sunday. 10-11 hours of driving in there to boot.

Make sure you post some teaser pics!!!!

I definitely want to partake in one now:

(Ketel One Oranje, Aperol, Licor 43. Fresh Lemon Honey Syrup)

Oh wow!! I haven't seen a pic of it yet! That looks and sounds delicious! It's on the to do list for Dapper day, for sure!:thumbsup2

I got my Club 33 fabric in the mail today to make my pillbox hat! Can't wait to get started on it! :)

That fabric is so cool!!! You're going to outshine me in the Club 33 Dapper Day dress department for sure!!

Whoever, that drink looks AWESOME!!! Hey, funny Freudian slip...when I spelled awesome just now, I accidentally used a dollar sign instead of an 'S' :rotfl:

I made a trial Club 33 necklace yesterday. I'll post a pic--I think it'll work.

Did you have that fabric custom made?

The edge treatment matches the border on my C33 plates almost exactly.
