Spreadsheet for UY

Hello everyone! Does anyone have a spreadsheet that will compute UY and consider banking/borrowing points? I have done this by hand and it is getting rather confusing! We are trying to decide on the best UY for us. :woohoo: TIA!

The best UY would be the one just before you vacation the most. Other than that UY truly doesn't matter......

The reason we need the best UY spreadsheet is because we will be borrowing/banking and visiting only every other year. So, we will also be looking at the expiration date on our banked points so we will not loose them. Then when you factor school breaks and everything else in there it gets kind of crazy on paper. We ideally would probably vacation in summer, so I originally thought a spring UY would be ideal, but when I started looking at our banked points we would probably not visit WDW in the winter before the points expired. I am a visual person and like to look at different scenarios.

Is this what you're looking for?

You probably would want a June UY.

Don't confuse the banking deadline with the dates they expire. You mentioned a spring UY but mentioned they expire in the winer. They would expire in the spring.

With a June UY, you have until the end of the following January to bank them.

Once banked, they would have to be used by May 31st of the following UY.

Example:

You have June 2008 points. You don't use them all in 2008. Prior to the end of January 2009 you bank them into your 2009 use year. These banked points then would be good then through May 31, 2010, expiring June 1, 2010.

Yes, that is my problem. About the only time we would be able to use our banked points in this situation would be Spring Break and I don't think we would make it then due to our schedules so we would loose those points. Guess I want my cake and eat it too! -OR- Am I analyzing this UY too much?!?

::yes::

in the situation you mentioned it is probably better to just borrow from the next UY's allocation, and find some other use for your banked pts.

most owners are more concerned about having to cancel late in the UY and losing both their previously banked pts and their current pts (which can't be banked that late in the UY) if they were unable to reschedule on short notice.

I think maybe you are. :goodvibes

June UY (using 2008 and 160 pts as an example)

On 06/01/08 you get 160 pts that are good until 05/31/09...you know for a fact that you aren't going to WDW in 2008 so you decide to bank your points by the 01/31/09 deadline. Those points are now usable from 06/01/09 -- to 05/31/10...so they would be available for a trip during summer vacation as long as it's for a check-in date after June 1st. Now if you decided not to go to WDW that year as well, you'd have to either rent the 2008 pts out or use them towards an Interval International exchange to keep from losing them completely.

Does that help -- or just muddy things up even more?

What else can we do with the points? I know you can rent them, but anything else? We could potentially loose <30 points (a very small contract--probably 60 or so).

Just another thought. It sounds as if you think you'll have too many points and won't be able to use them all? If so, have you thought about buying a smaller contract thru resale so you don't have to worry about using extra points? Maybe you'll just end up in a borrowing mode then and won't have to worry about banking. And if you then realize it's too few you'll be able to add on points at a 25 point minimum.

Ok - now I see you mention a 60 point contract so it sounds like you're thinking resale. Perhaps you could share how many points your looking at purchasing.

yeah, renting, transferring or giving away a short stay to family or friends would be the only other options... (you can't donate the points as such, but you may be able to donate a reservation for a couple of nights to a charity...)
