I have a wedding to attend on Sunday and since I have heard so many scary things lately about tanning beds I am considering spray tanning. I called a local place and they told me it costs $25 and it usually lasts from 2-4 weeks. They also suggested exfoliating first, and not wearing any jewelry, lotion, make up or perfume. This is the booth tanning, not the one the person does. All I can picture is the episode of Friends where Ross tries it! hahaha....I'm scared. Has anyone done it? How long did it last? Any tips for me? Thanks!

My Sister had it done recently and did not like it. She did not think it covered well and had to go back for touch-ups.

I did this last November. It only lasted about a week. It is hard to rub in evenly. I had places that looked good but then other places like I had red clay dirt rubbed in. Good luck! :teeth:

also I've heard that it rubs off onto EVERYTHING.

for $25...you're better off going and buying a self tanner and doing multiple applications yourself over the next week (after exfoiliating of course!)...(once every other day) with someone helping you reach your 'hard to reach places'.

i've heard good thing about the new L'Oreal one and the Neutrogena one. Can't say I've tried either - I'm one of those idiots who still frequents a tanning bed.

I did a Mystic Tan for a wedding in April. It lasted about a week, and it did not rub off on anything. My suggestions would be to moisturize really well for 3-4 days before you tan. Also, make sure you exfoliate a day or so before. Be sure to use tons of barrier cream on your feet, toenails, hands and fingernails. I didn't use enough on my toenails, and they are kind of orangy/yellow now - like when you leave a dark polish on for too long. I got 4 sessions for $55. I have only done one of them. I keep meaning to go back, but I just haven't had the time. All in all, I was very happy with my Mystic Tan.

I would be hesitant to try it the first time just before this wedding. You wouldn't be too happy if it didn't turn out right and you didn't have time to fix it. I've never done the spray tan, but I use the Neutragena Foam self-tanner and I love it. But, again I would be hesitant to try it for the first time because it takes some practice. I'm sorry, I know that's not much help. But, for future reference, I do love the Neutragena.

I didn't like the spray tanning. I LOVE the new L'OREAL self tanner. I use the tinted gel, it is great and it does not rub off on anything. I am a VERY fair individual and this tanner looks totally natural to me.:D

I almost tried the stand up spray booth this spring, but chickened out after hearing all the "cons".
I am an avid user of tanning lotions and have had only good results. And for the $25-$55 cost range thrown out on these replies--geez, that's 2-3 YEARS of self tan lotion supplies.

Just do 2 applications per day on thoroughly moisturized and exfoliated skin and you'll have wonderful color. Avoid long baths and/or swimming sessions as well.

My brother has a co-worker that did this type of tanning. She said the spray was really, really cold and she wasn't expecting that when they turned it on. Unfortunately her reaction was to immediately pee. It ran down her legs and they ended up with streaks on them. This story just cracked me up although I did feel sorry for the girl.

It is a booth and you use a "barrier cream" between toes, on hands, etc. Follow the directions. It usually lasts about 1 week, you can do this multiple times before the wedding. I think it covers very evenly.. you just have to be careful and use the barrier cream well. I haven't heard good things about spray on tan products applied by someone else.
Good Luck!

Thanks everyone! I was thinking the same thing that Beth 76 said. I don't want to be really disappointed and then have to go to a wedding looking all splotchy and gross. I think maybe I will just try the Loreal lotion instead. Thanks for saving me from the humiliation :) I am a tanning bed user too, but there's no time ! :) Planned on starting last week and just got too busy with work. Does everyone put the lotion on just with their hands, do you use a sponge? What do you suggest? Thanks everyone!

I have yet to know anyone who was happy with their spray tan (except for those who've posted here about it--glad it worked for you!)

I did the Mystic Tan before my wedding... I did not notice a big change after the first applciation, you have to do it serveral times, really, to get a good base and such. It doesnt last that long, either. I wouldn't go do it just one time, I'd do it several times to get a good color. Mine did not come off at all, I used the blocker on parts that I didn't want tan, and it coated evenly.

I would buy self tanner and do it at home... that way you can reapply as needed =)

Everyone who I know that has had it done has not liked it. My lab partner got it done for Homecomming, and she was an Ompa-Lumpa.

If you use the L'OREAL self tanner just make sure you shave and exfoliate really well before you apply it. I use the tinted gel so I can see where I am applying it. I always use my hand and have never had any streaks:wave2:

Ok everyone, used the tinted Loreal stuff last night and I really like it! It gives you a bronzy glow and you can see where it's going to make sure it's rubbed in. Noticing a couple places this morning that I didn't use it sparingly enough ( a little orangey around my elbows and hands,) but all in all I'm VERY HAPPY with the results. Going to do a second application tonight because I'd like it to be darker, but I just wanted to tell everyone thanks! You saved me possible humiliation! I LOVE THE DIS!
