Anyone ever done this? I'm considering this option because my countertops are in good condition, but are an ugly yellow laminate. They make that spray paint that looks like stone, and it sounds pretty easy. I was reading about/looking at pictures of people's experiences online. If you've done it, what primer/sealant did you use? How hard was it to keep the paint from getting over everything else? Thanks for any help you can give.

Now, I have not done this... but I do stuff like this a lot. I would be a little concerned about that stone spray paint.... make sure it feels smooth when dry. If its the stuff I'm thinking of it IS NOT. Its a little bumpy-ish.

KILZ is a GREAT primer. Get the oil based and air the room out really well. Clean the counter with that TSP or TPS (I forget) first. Sand it super lightly, apply kilz and then paint. I'd also seal it with clear oil based (water proof) sealer.

Dont forget the before and after pix! :thumbsup2 GOOD LUCK!!!!

I did use the spray looking stone stuff several years ago, we have since had new countertops installed or I would take a picture for you. It was fairly easy to do, just make sure to cover up the areas you don't want the paint on. It's been so long that I don't remember what I used to seal it with. It looked nice when it was finished and held up well.

I have also heard of using the epoxy coatings that you paint on garage floors...then, you don't have to seal it.

I've used the stone looking stuff for craft projects and it is bumpy. I can't imagine it working as a countertop. But maybe you are talking about a different kind of paint?
Plus with the laminate I would think you would have to really scrap it up to get the paint to stick no?
And I'll second using an EPOXY paint (and no way would I spray paint)

I put new laminate over the old stuff. Never thought about painting it...seems like it would be more trouble than it's worth. New laminate was pretty easy.
