Spouses and Money

We have NEVER fought about money in the 15 years we've been together!

I may cry at times when we had none and an unexpected bill came up. DH, who paints/repairs cars, would just say he'd work on a friends car or do a side job to get the money and would tell me not to cry to get worked up about it. In his words "it's only money, who cares" and thinks it's stupid to argue over money. Why hurt a relationship for things that happen unexpectantly (ex: car breaks down).

As you can tell, he doesn't let anything bother him. We had a rough few months while he was unemployed. He would never discuss or argue about money. I just had to let him know if we needed a little extra for something and he'd do some kind of work (cars, plowing in winter, etc) to make up for it.

I am very lucky to have someone like him. Even when we'd have a little extra and I'd finally buy something I needed or wanted, he wouldn't care and wouldn't even ask the price. He says "easy come, easy go...".

My DH's has the same attitude, I used to like it, in particular when I wanted to buy something but felt that guilty of wasting the money.

I can't say I like it now. For many years I told him the reason we have savings was because we earned more than we spent, not because we made an effort to save. It is particulary a problem if one person decided it is time to save for retirement and the other still have the same attitude.

Therefore, if he has this attitude, make sure he has a plan on saving.
