I'd like to know if anyone has gone to WDW for a sports tournament...I'm wondering what the experience was like for your family, because I will be dealing with 2 older sisters (15 & 14) along with my baseball playing 12 yr old son...I'm also wondering what the transportation will be like to get us to the fields and how quickly/frequently buses run...Any suggestions, tips and stories would be great...

I don't really have any experience with tournaments at Disney. We have been several times for national cheerleading competitions and have had a blast. We have always stayed off property and just transported our self to and from. We like the freedom of having our vehicle, since we have a 3 other children besides our cheerleader. As for the other kids... mine are younger so we just bring them with us. DH will keep them at home for her practices each night. As for the actual competition days they are with us cheering her team on. Your girls are older so I wonder if they could stay back at the hotel and maybe enjoy some of the amenities.

You will have a great time. We love it! We will be there again in March and we can not wait.

Good luck to your son's team.

We've been to five softball tournaments at the Wide World of Sports (one coed, before DS came along, and my husband has played in a few since then). Unless it has changed, and I would suggest inquiring, there is NO transportation to the Wide World of Sports for tournaments. The official Disney line was that there was sporadic bus transportation available, but that you should not depend on it since it might be easy to miss game times. You will probably want to look into renting a car, especially since you'll have his gear to lug back and forth.
As far as the fields go - they're beautiful! Best softball diamond I ever played on, that's for sure! I'm sure he'll definitely enjoy playing there!:thumbsup2

I'll be able to tell you in a month. We're headed down in Jan for a gymnastics competition. I do have a rental car through Alamo ($58 for a compact..total), but I know other parents who aren't renting a car and will be relying on Disney transportation.

i am pretty sure when I booked it the TA said there was transportation to the Wide World of Sports from only select Disney hotels...I want to say All Star Sports and POFQ were the two. I'd look into it though. We will be there for a soccer tourney in a month.

Was at a soccer tournament about 3 years ago. There were buses to WWoS but never early enough and they took forever. Luckily 2 families had cars and they shuttled the kids back and forth. After that experience, I would say your own transportation is essential.

Admission is not free to WWoS so depending on your ticket, you may have to pay extra. The kids playing and coaches got admission but no one else.
