Spontaneous Trips?

Has anyone ever done one of these for WDW? My family decided today that if we could get a cheap hotel off priceline that we would go to WDW and use our AP's before they expire. And before i knew it, we made plans to go on a 10 day trip to WDW and we will be leaving next week!! I dont know what to think. Its great but just a little overwhelming

We did that with Disneyland a couple of years ago. Came back from an early May cruise and got an e-mail from AA.com with flights to John Wayne Airport on sale. Within an hour we had flights booked, a room at Paradise Pier, and a rental car. All this for Memorial Day weekend. It was a great excuse to go see the new California Adventure. Loved it!

On not as much short notice we came back last October from a trip that ended on a sour note and within a couple of weeks had a mid-December trip planned.

Possibly not the same as having to plan a trip from a greater distance (airfare, rental car, whatnot). We lived in FL about an hour and a half away from WDW and had APs and would go fairly frequently, but three years ago my SO insisted that we get up early for the day after thanksgiving sales. He really wanted this Palm pilot thingy from Staples and we were up so early and standing in line to get into this store. When we were all allowed in we ran to where they were distributing them and the whole store only had three of these, and it seemed like everyone wanted one. We didn't get one. He was pretty bummed. This began our bad day of after thanksgiving shopping. After an equally disappointing trip to BestBuy we were by this time snipping at each other and in an awful mood. He turned to me and asked what would make today better? What would I want to do? I said going to WDW would make me happy. So we drove the 30 min. home from the mall area, made a call to get a couple of nights at a hotel, packed a bag, and were on our way before lunchtime!! What made it even better was that on the drive over we happened to pass another Staples and went in. While they didn't have the special sale Palm Pilot that SO wanted, he found an even better one (also more expensive ) and bought that. So he was really happy that he had a new toy to play with, and I was happy that we turned a bad day around into a short 3 day disney trip that was completely unplanned!!!

Yes!

OVer two years ago, my DH were having lunch and trying to decide if we wated to take the family away for a weekend. We had all gone thru a very rough patch and needed some great family time. That was about 12:45pm.

I said, "too bad we can't use our APs and DVC points for Disney". DH said, "Why not?"

In under an hour we had good airfare and a room at OKW. The kids got off the bus less than an hour later and we told them they have under an hour to pack for 2 days at Disney.

It was one of the best trips ever! We drove onto WDW less then 12 hours from our lunch conversation, did all 4 parks, and had the kids back for school on time, Monday morning.

I love spur of the moment trips!
