SpongeBob Squarepants??? Never thought I'd write this word....

My brother watches Spongebob ALL the time, and I must admit that I do watch it myself sometimes. (I am 13)

You might be able to head over to the Nick Hotel in Orlando and meet up him. A friend of mine stayed there with her kids and they did a charcter breakfast with him.

fyi - I just read this post - I know you can see at the Nick Hotel -but wondering if the yellow spongemeister might be spotted at Universal.:confused3

I don't see anything wrong with Spongebob - it's just SILLY. ...<snip> The only one I really didn't like was the PowerPuff Girls - now that annoyed me!

I have to agree here - another really nasty one is the BRATZ girls - yes lets all teach our daughers to dress like ladies of the evening....very character building. The only thing wrong with sponge bob IMO is he overexaggerates his emotions...which is something that kids have a hard time with i e regulating strong feelings...I worry that SBSP might cause them to over-react...but as another poster mentioned...we talk about what was seen and try to sort out what was an unrational response to things by Mr. SBSP etc.,
:dance3:

I cant wait until my upcoming trip!!

My son (4) watches it. If he's extra energetic, I'll put it on to calm him down while I'm fixing dinner.

I am an evil Mommy. DS thinks that SBSP only comes on at my parents house. lol

We love SBSP in our house. My DS5 and DS2 watch it. They also watch Noggin and other shows on the Disney Channel. I don't remember many educational cartoons when I was growing up and I don't think I turned out too bad. :)

I have never seen any innuendos in the show. The thought never crossed my mind to look. I just thought it was called Bikini Bottom because it was the bottom of the sea. It's a Krabby patty named after Mr. Krabs. I guess I don't see why those would be questioned.

Now a show I don't like my boys to watch is Max and Ruby. She's very rude to her brother.

:goodvibes
okay, so my 3 and 1/2 year old has been requesting to watch SpongeBob Squarepants.... I have no idea how she knows what it is b/c she is my oldest child. I'm guessing she hears about SBSP at preschool..? Regardless, she wants to watch it...I tried to watch an episode to see if its appropriate, but turned it off after 5 minutes...I was thinking that once she saw it, she would think its boring- the humor going WAY over her head.... Boy was I wrong...I let her watch one episode to show her that she is too immature to understand, but she LOVES it!!!!! Does anyone else let their kids watch SBSP? If so, what are their ages....if you are anti-SBSP- can you tell me why?????
Thanks!
Clueless Mom....

I *love* Spongebob! And, yes, I let my 4yo DD watch it. Some of the language is a little crass sometimes (they say "butt" alot), but it's nothing she doesn't hear at day care. What I like best is that Spongebob has a heart of gold and he's always thinking the best of everyone.

I think the people who see the sexual content probably have it on their minds to begin with. You know the saying; "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar".

LOL! I agree. The sexual innuendo went right over my head. I always thought Bikini Bottom was a bit risque, but I never noticed Squirdward's nose before.

I have to agree here - another really nasty one is the BRATZ girls - yes lets all teach our daughers to dress like ladies of the evening....very character building.

In total agreement on the Bratz thing. Flame away, but why would anyone buy their daughter such an obviously sexual doll? :sad2: Sheesh, at least Barbie has real career aspirations! I don't like Barbie and wasn't thrilled when my aunt bought DD one for her bday, but the Bratz dolls are a whole other ballgame.

Ack, this is way OT, but these dolls really bother me.

We love SBSP at our house. I'll admit that its not my most favorite show but its not terrible. Being from TX, we love Sandy. There are a few shows I won't let them watch (Ed, Edd & Eddy comes to mind) but in general I try to not make things 'forbidden fruit'.
My DD also has several Bratz dolls. To her, they're just like any other doll. The other day she had Bratz Yasmin riding in her Barbie Van with a Barbie, Strawberry Shortcake, a Madame Alexander Doll from McDonalds & a Bratz Boy.
AFA the way they dress, DD tried on a Halloween costume last year & immediately said she couldn't wear it because it showed her tummy. Because I'm a belly dancer I didn't want her to think that it was never OK to show her tummy. So, we had a discussion about when its appropriate to show your tummy (Halloween, when Mommy & her friends are dancing, etc) & when its not. She's a very modest little girl & I doubt that a few Bratz dolls are going to change that.

My kids all watch SBSP. The 2 youngest also watch Playhouse Disney & Nick Jr. I think it just a silly cartoon for them all to watch together (which is rare since oldest says he's too old for the other stuff :sad1: ).
Whenever we get them kids meals from McD's or BK my youngest has to see if they forgot his pickles (his favorite sponge bob episode). " Mommy, they didn't forget the pickles."
Also when he gets upset about something he will say " Oh Tartar Sauce"
