I thought I'd go ahead and start a spoilers thread for anyone who wants to talk about the movie after they've seen it - or before they go, if they want to. (I don't, so I won't be back to this thread until Friday morning after the midnight release!) See you later, fellow muggles!

Yeah! I'm so excited about this movie I think I might pop! For those who know who dies in this one is there a certain death you think will affect you? With part 1 it was Dobby and Hedwig, this one I think it'll be Snape. I never thought Snape was a bad guy and he died unnecessarily (because Voldemort's logic about the Elder wand was flawed). But if he hadn't died I wonder how Snape would have been able to redeem himself and proove he was always on the good side since Dumbledore was the only one who knew the truth.

Voldermort Dies :)

Testing to see if this spoiler tag works here-just learned about it on another forum

edit=I guess this doesn't work here-on the other forum it puts a tag around spoilers and automatically hides the text so you have to click on it to see it. Maybe this could be an upgrade for this board some day.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I read the book :)

Hey, who you calling a Muggle ?! ;)

I am so looking forward to seeing it but I am not going until tomorrow night.

I am exciting about the movie, but kind of chagrined by how they seem to have changed the final battle between Harry and Voldemort. Based on what I have seen in the trailers, at least.

Of course, in the book, the final battle is very short, and not very action-filled, so it probably doesn't translate well to cinema. It's very suspenseful, though.

That was bloody brilliant! I laughed, I cried, I don't even know where to start!

The Molly scene, the the theater erupted into applause and cheers. Same for when Nevell kills Nagini.

The death of Snape, violent yet unfortunately had to happen. And the scenes of Harry going through Snape's memories in the pensive, I cried like a baby. They did a brilliant job of showing Snape's true character and Alan Rickman was just amazing!

I really wish they had kept the scene at the end where Harry talks to Dumbledore's picture in the headmaster's office explaining what happened to the resurrection stone and him putting the Elder wand back with Dumbledore's body.

It's late and I'm sure there's more to say but right now I'm too tired. DH and I are definitely seeing it again, probably in 3D.

Oh, my, where to begin! :headache:

We had a great theater full of people with us. We laughed, we cried, we cheered!

But...

There were things different from the book and/or stuff that annoyed me:

Ariana's death is never really explained.

Luna was with The Big Three at Shell Cottage before the break in to Gringotts, and then miraculously is at Hogwarts when The Big Three get there. She does not come later through the passage between The Hog's Head and the Room of Requirement.

Harry does not use the Cruciatus Curse on Amycus Carrow. In fact, that entire scene does not happen. Both Carrows make only a very minor appearance.

Percy never shows up.

Fred does not die on screen. Harry sees the Weasleys surrounding Fred's body, but Fred's actual death scene does not occur.

Neville indicates she has a thing for Luna and that he was going to tell her. We see later that the two of them are together. Jo Rowling indicated at the Carnegie Hall show a few months after the release of the book that Neville married Hannah Abbott.

Hermione and Ron tell Harry they are going to get a Basilisk fang before they run off. They kiss in the Chamber of Secrets. Ron never says anything about warning the House Elves.

Crabbe is replaced by Blaise Zabini in the Fiendfyre scene, I think because the actor who played Crabbe had some drug difficulties at the time. Goyle is the one that casts the Fiendfyre in the movie and dies.

The Centaurs do not fight in the Battle of Hogwarts. They are not seen at all.

Snape is killed in the boathouse, not the Shrieking Shack. His memories are in tears that he sheds as he dies. It was still very moving.

Snape's memories are greatly abbrigded, although it is obvious that Snape loved Lilly.

After Harry's death, Tom's curses continue to affect the grounds and people at Hogwarts. In the book, it mentions that Harry's sacrifice gives everyone at Hogwarts the same protection that Lilly's death gave Harry. Nothing like this is mentioned in the movie.

Harry reveals himself as alive as soon as Neville stands up to Voldemort. The scene is changed dramatically. Nagini is not killed right then, as Neville does not know at this time that Nagini must die. Neville does have the Sword of Gryfindor, but the Sorting Hat is not set ablaze nor is it placed on Neville's head. As soon as Neville takes a swipe at Tom (not Nagini) with the sword, Harry falls out of Hagrid's arms and runs off, showing himself to be alive.

Harry and Tom DUAL throughout the castle. Harry, Ron, and Hermione all try unsuccessfully to kill Nagini. As they fight, Harry warns Tom that Harry is the true master of the Elder Wand due to is defeat of Draco, but this happens right before a scene where Harry flings himself and Tom from a balcony. The two of them fly around and struggle before crashing to the ground. They continue to dual and their wands lock. Harry NEVER offers Tom forgiveness nor mentions that Tom should try showing remorse. Only after Neville FINALLY kills Nagini does Tom's wand flip out of him hand, however, Tom's wand does not hit Tom with the killing curse. Instead, Harry catches the wand and Tom crumbles into dust and soot. This occurs outside the castle, and there are no witnesses. Note that while there were cheers and crying and clapping in other parts, nobody said anything when Tom died. I think everyone was overcome by the shock of how much it got screwed up!

After Tom's death, Harry breaks the Elder Wand in two and throws it off a bridge. Harry does not use it to repair his own wand, or does he have it buried with Dumbledore.

While visually stunning, and very emotional (up until Snape's memories, at least), the movie lacked a lot that gave the book it's character. It's like the writer and director read the book, but just didn't get it. :sad2:

Hermione and Ron tell Harry they are going to get a Basilisk fang before they run off. They kiss in the Chamber of Secrets. Ron never says anything about warning the House Elves.

This is not surprising, as the entire SPEW/house elf enslavement subplot was eliminated from the movies and the only elves ever seen are Dobby and Kreacher.

And harry didn't repair the pheonix wand!!!!!!!
This part I missed significantly. I wish they would have closed out the scene with them in Dumbledore's office, Harry repairing his wand and then they could have faded to the 19 years later scene.

I also didn't like the way Hagrid wasn't shown until the Dark Forest scene.

It felt like they only glossed over Snape's memories - I felt like that should have been more in depth. I've read all the books twice so I understood that, but my husband has only seen the movies and he didn't really completely get the gist of it.

I did see Percy, he was in the scene when they all come out of the castle when Voldemort shows up with the "dead" Harry, but again, just glossed over that important part of the book. They should have shown Percy showing back up and apologizing and they should have shown Fred's death scene.

Even with those eliminations, I still did enjoy the movie. It's just very bitter sweet . . .

I haven't seen the movie but I understand why they didn't make a big deal of Percy showing up -- in the movies they never showed him arguing w/ his family and siding w/ the ministry. If they made a big deal of Percy returning it would have confused the folks who have only watched the movies and never read the books. It's similar to when Bill told Harry how he got the scars on his face in Deathly Hallows I. The explanation was necessary because in the movies they never showed the first Battle of Hogwarts.

I pretty much agree with everything said so far, except for the missing parts that were missing because their story lines were never there to begin with (SPEW, Percey), although of course I wish those had been part of the series. Of course, there was simply too much in the books to include it all.. Our theater, too, was silent when Voldemort was killed despite lots of cheering and clapping for other scenes.

I think the movie series gave short shrift to the character development of Snape all along, so the minimal amount of his memories that was shared wasn't a surprise to me but still disappointing nevertheless. I love that character, and honestly think he is one of the deepest character in the entire book series.

One thing that I truly, truly appreciate is how the "kids" were depicted as adults. I was so worried that they would have heavy make-up or whatnot to age them, but other than putting a fat suit on Ron (OK, he just looked a bit portly, but I don't think they call them portly suits, lol), they let the actors look like themselves. A little bit of scruff on Harry's chin, but they let the fans keep their memories of how they all looked. I think that, in particular, was really well done. As for the scene itself, however, I thought in the book that Harry and Draco acknowledge each other at the station, but I didn't really catch that in the movie. Am I mistaken about the book, or did I miss something in the movie?

Overall, I still think the movie was amazing, and I really want to see it again to catch some of the lines I missed.

Yeah, that's a good point. It would be like me complaining about no Peeves... :rotfl:

We got our tickets a couple of weeks ago but yet I got talked into dropping my DD13 and her friend off at the theatre at 8:20 by 8:45, they had opened one of their 6 theatre that was showing it.

We waited from 9 pm till the movie started......with a great before party with everyone dressed in either their favorite character, or a t-shirt.

It was worth the wait......we absolutely  this movie.....we waited, we applauded, we laughed, we applauded, we cried, we cried, we cheered, and finally big applause and big crying time when we all realized that it was all over :rotfl:

Yes, it didn't they changed some of the scenes a bit and yes, not all the characters are shown but I still feel that this is a great adaptation of the books and for those that have not read all the books  wouldn't know what's missing....yep, my youngest DD11 has only read the first 3 books while my eldest DD has read all of them at least 6 times....

We will be going to see it again in 3D!

I agree, yes there were a motor things missing but since they were never mentioned before if they tried to put them in now those who hadn't read the books would be confused. My husband hasn't read any of them and has only seen each of the movies once so I still spent the entire car ride home explaining things to him that he had questions about. Overall they did a good adaptation considering they have to make the movies so those with little to no knowledge of the books won't get lost.

A scene with Peeves was filmed for the first movie, but ended up being cut. British comic Rik Mayall played him.

The scene I really miss from the films is the wrapup with the Dursleys that takes place at the beginning of Deathly Hallows - when Dudley shakes Harry's hand. Would like to have seen that.

That was filmed and cut, too.
