I really enjoyed this tour. I already knew a lot of the information the tour guide was telling us but there were several little things I didn’t. It was a basic background on Walt Disney, etc… My DD knew almost all the answers too since she had done a biography report for school this year using Walt Disney. I won’t give away everything, because I can’t remember all the little details that we were told. LOL!

We met at the Exposition hall (actually, I’m sure we met before the Exposition Hall but that is where I caught up with them!). I don’t think I would have ever decided to go in there if it weren’t for the tour. LOL! It was really nice.

We got taken behind the ropes in the back with a mural that was painted there; it was interesting to know the artist did it completely by memory! I was impressed (but I only draw stick figures so it’s not hard to impress me with artistic ability!). She also pointed out the mistakes that were on the wall, which was neat. One thing she did point out was that since animators can’t sign their works, BJ on the nametag of one of the Dalmatians (sorry I’ve forgotten which one – I’m not up on my Dalmatians) is actually the animator’s initials. There is CH on another one and they are still researching that because there is no animator with the initials CH, they think they know what that is for but are still researching it.

We happened to see Wendy too (that wasn’t part of the tour, she just happened to be coming in that way and we said Good Morning to her! It was just a bonus!).

Hidden Mickey’s were talked about and DS-8 spotted a Hidden Mickey on a camera in the display case. She did tell us the one rule about the Hidden Mickey’s is – if you think it’s a Hidden Mickey, then it’s a Hidden Mickey. :goodvibes

It was talked about how Mickey wasn’t Walt’s first successful character but how the old contract and some behind back dealing made him not be able to expand it, etc…

We then head to the trains for a ride over to Toontown and we have to draw a Mickey Mouse (we were told we could just use the 3 circles if we wanted. LOL!). Everyone drew a full Mickey – I don’t think we had any artists among us. Hee Hee. We each got special prizes (i.e. stickers) for our efforts.

We get to Toontown and we go check out Mickey’s House – this was a bonus for us because we hadn’t made it to Toontown and DD really wanted to go. Originally this was Birthday land and was going to be temporary (I remember when they opened it as a birthday celebration version! I wasn’t there but I remember the talk/ads, etc…) but it was popular so kept it and used it as a county fair theme. Then I get asked, “What’s at a county fair?” I answer not quite smartly – “rides?” LOL! I knew that wasn’t the answer that was being looked for due to where we were and the leading way it was asked but it is what popped into my head. The answer is more along the lines of 4-H; contests, etc… because Mickey is the Judge. :p Lots of little details about the house were pointed out.

We turn around and who is there but the BIG CHEESE himself! We get a private meet & greet with Mickey at his house! I was so excited! One thing I wanted to do on this trip was meet Mickey. Now, we had met him at Donald’s but it was so rushed, etc…. We got to have us all in the picture! They did a shot with all of us and then one of just the kids. Then Mickey had to leave to go open Toontown.

We then went in his garden and out to his garage! Oh, did you know Pluto is not Pluto’s original name? That was interesting. More trivia was pointed out in the garage – also about the development of the character with how his eyes have evolved over the years and more animation. Also some slight info about the charity work they do and the white gloves.

Interesting fact that the Teacups were the number #1 ride in the park until Buzz Lightyear came along – that is now the #1 ride. I never gave it much thought because I don’t like the Teacups but this fact came back to me when DH wanted to ride them and said, “How can you go to Disney and not ride the Teacups? Everyone rides the Teacups.”

We also went into one of the stores (the one with the Giant) and talked about the first article with Mickey’s image on it). Also, how Mickey helped saved some companies from bankruptcy due to it being in the depression and them using Mickey’s image – so Disney merchandising took off. :earsboy:

We go see Mickey’s Philamagic because this would be Walt’s dream of having you totally involved. Here we have a problem though, remember DS-8’s freaking out about anything spraying water at you? He went absolutely upset about being in this theatre! He wanted no part of it, was scared to death and was freaking out. The tourguide was great though and asked if I would like her to take him to the back of the theatre, so they went and sat through it back there. I hope she wasn’t supposed to have any spiel during the show! If so, sorry to those others on the tour. I guess the water speakers/sprayers in the back were broken? So, he didn’t get wet? I don’t know but he survived going back there. It was the first time we had a chance to see it.

We headed to the private glade area and who should appear but Dale – although our tourguide kept calling him Chip – until the handler corrected her! ;) It was funny because I know usually Donald shows up but since Dale was being a stand-in, he had the “Donald” hat and made the tourguide put it on her head! LOL!

We got our Mickey ears – except for some odd reason I got the child size & Aaron got the adult size. LOL! We were told we could exchange them at the hat shop at the front of the store. I didn’t exchange mine because I didn’t want to have to re-do the names (they were just written in silver metallic ink on the ears with MMM on the other one). We exchanged Aaron’s though and they embroidered his name on the back. Of course, DD then wanted her name put on the back and they went ahead and did that, so she got to keep her MMM one with her name added on the back. I didn’t have mine added. I’m keeping more of a memento of the tour than anything else.

I thought it was a really good tour and since it’s still fairly new, with the small group made it really nice. There was more trivia that was told but I can’t remember every detail and besides, you don’t want to know everything do you? You can take the tour and get all of that. This was just the highlights.

Thanks for the report. We are going in October and were looking at maybe doing this tour. Sounds perfect!

this tour sounds like so much fun! i went to the Keys to the Kingdom Tour 2 years ago and i loved it!! how long was this tour? the Key's tour was probably 4 and 1/2 hours. i'm looking for a shorter one because we're pretty booked for the whole week and i still want to try and hit a tour. buzz lightyear is definatly one of the best rides! lol. glad you had fun, i love hearing about Disney trivia.

did you know that when buying the land to build Disney World they had to make up names because if they knew Walt was buying it the prices would skyrocket?? they did research and they found out one of the buyers of the land was none other than Minnie Mouse! cute little tip i picked up from our tour. i love those tours! lol.
