Film critic Roger Ebert calls these scenes the "Monk's Reward" (because one must have the patience of a Monk to sit all the way through the credits).I've come to realize that most new movies have scenes after the credits, and it's common knowledge to know to stay, now.![]()
After the credits, in a scene captioned "Ten Years Later," a young boy approximately ten years of age is seen singing "A Pirates Life for Me" as Elizabeth walks behind him. It is implied that this is the child of Will and Elizabeth. The sun sets followed by a green flash and Will, on the mast of The Dutchman, sails towards the shore. According to the film's writers, the curse of The Dutchman is broken if, after the ten years, the captain's lover reamains faithful. The final post-credit scene suggests that Will can now return to land, as Elizabeth has remained faithful. The green flash, which symbolises a soul returning from the dead, supports this theory. Apparently, a scene of dialogue between Tia Dalma/Calypso and Davy Jones, which explained this, was cut from the film, leading to confusion about the ending.
For the record, yes, I'm well aware I'm evil.WILL TURNER jumps out of a rowboat and runs towards ELIZABETH and the BOY, still on shore.
WILL:
I'm back, my darling! The curse of the Flying Dutchman is lifted!
ELIZABETH:
Will... a week after you left... Jack stopped by to speak to me about my role as the Pirate Queen in negotiating a dispute between Barbossa and Sao Feng's men. He had a large bottle of rum with him, things were said... You remember when I left him on the deck of the Pearl, Will... and...
WILL:
What... what are you saying?
(WILL looks at BOY)
You don't seriously mean...?
BOY:
My daddy says you're a eunuch. Can you really hit a High C?
Maybe!
Is anybody on this thread going back for a 2nd time any time soon?
Inquiring minds need to know....
...is Will destined to a life WITHOUT Elizabeth or is the SPELL BROKEN?![]()
I was already infatuated with Orlando Bloom, but now... I think it might be full-blown LOVE.At the end of the movie, my friend and I were totally slack-jawed at how AMAZING he looked. I'm pretty sure the only words I was able to utter were, "Uh. Muh. Gawww."

Okay, BTB....I've been PM'ing with other posters on this thread all day....so apparently I'm not the ONLY one wondering.....
I saw what you posted earlier in the thread....where you said in Wik. it stated "the writers said..." BUT, what a few of us on this thread want to know is WHERE the writers said it, and can we read it?
I tried the writer's website, but I could not access it, and apparently, they are off for the holiday and cannot be reached.
Also, Wiki. is not a 100% reliable website as ANYONE can post on it, and it can be their opinion that is posted.....not necessarily facts.
...and if the green light flashed when Will left on the F.D., then why would the spell be broken by the flash the 2nd time?
I am not trying to demyth anything, and if that is what the writer's intended (for the spell to be broken), then that is our answer. We were just looking to find WHERE the writer's said it--to see it for oursevles in print so to speak, so we could actually read their quotes and explanations of the ending(s).

Yep - this was said in interview. I stumbled across it on either Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB. This was in an interview available on 5/25/07.
I have loved Orlando since Lord of the Rings. He is just a beautiful, beautiful man. But those last few scenes were...wow!! When he first came back as captain of the Flying Dutchman, coming to the aid of the Black Pearl, I have never seen him look hotter! And then the scene with him and Elizabeth on the beach?! I'd wait ten years for him, you betcha!! Especially when he comes back looking like he did!!![]()
Which didn't really materialize until this past Saturday night as I sat drooling in my popcorn! OMG! The Bonus scene with Orlando on the FD - WOW!
If that is true, then the scene after the credits takes on a whole new meaning in that Will has come back to life, and has completed his task for Calypso.

I'm so glad I wasn't alone with my Orlando obsession!Which didn't really materialize until this past Saturday night as I sat drooling in my popcorn! OMG! The Bonus scene with Orlando on the FD - WOW!
All I can say is I'm glad my DH had no idea of what got into me!![]()
I think you may be the only person in America who saw that film and said, "It was good, but it needed more exposition."We could have done without another confusing action scene in lieu of some good expository dialogue!!! I hate it when producers go hog wild with action & cgi and forget character and story.

For those who did not see the footage after the credits - take a look here. Quality is not great, but you get the idea:
