Just got back two weeks ago from my first stay at the Grand Floridian. It was beautiful. I don't think pictures do it any justice at all. And while it was hot and incredibly muggy (although not crowded at WDW at all) the GF was airy and light and it just seemed like an oasis everyday when we got back from the parks.
This was a short trip with a group of my mom friends and their kids. Because I was only taking one of my children (15 month old twins stayed home with dad), I decided to splurge on a resort that we wouldn't normally stay at with all five of us. At first we were going to stay at the Wilderness Lodge, which I'm still really anxious to do, but then I decided to just splurge.
In short:
Very clean. I'm really detail-oriented and the room was immaculate. Also, the surrounding facilities were very clean, bright and cheerful.
Not crowded. I'd heard that the GF can be noisy and that there are alot of kids running around. This wasn't the case on our trip, but Disney World in general was not crowded this weekend (mother's day weekend). There were a couple of weddings going on while we were there and they were fun to watch.
Pool: Gorgeous. I loved that you are right next to the water.
Great cast members: We had excellent service.
Really, the whole resort was just beautiful. I found transportation to and from the parks and Downtown Disney to be pretty quick. The one time I had to wait for a bus, I got on a bus to the Contemporary and took the monorail to the GF. You can't underestimate how convenient it is to have the monorail right there. We also used the resort launch, which was fun. We used Magical Express, which was also excellent. I still can't believe how much more attractive the resort is compared to photos, which can make it look a little fussy.
Truthfully, I'm spoiled for life. My five-year old wants to stay at WL our next trip because it looks like more of a "boy hotel," but if GF had less expensive suite options, we'd be staying there as a family from now on.
