Splitting vacation. Which resort would you stay first, Poly or AKL?

We have ressies at Polynesian for 6 nights over Christmas. We are thinking of splitting the vacation with AKL.

I am really torn between staying at the Polynesian first or AKL first? I have read great things about both, but I don't want to feel that the move will be a let down. (Does this make sense?)Any opinions or suggestions out there for me?

We have a 3 and 5 year old and will be taking things pretty easy because of the potential crowds in the parks.

My opinion, and I do have one, is Poly first. Its so easy to go to the Mk from there and work out some excitement etc. Then end the vacation with the AKL its quiet and restful.

We had the same dilemma - We are going Dec 13 - 19, 3 nights at CR and 3 nights at AKL. We decided to do CR first - We love it, we're comfortable with it - and it is so convenient to MK for our MVMCP night. We tend to hit the parks harder at the start of our vacation, and lighten up later as we get a little more tired. The kids don't even know we are going yet, and they always wanted to try AKL, so we figured save the surprise for later - and take the time to enjoy all the activities they offer at this resort - can't wait to show my 13 year old the night vision tour!

With your little guys - definitely start at the Poly first, easy monorail access to MK and back, then as they poop out, enjoy the relaxation and pool time at AKL, with a trip to AK if it works out!

We stayed 3 nights at the AKL than moved over to the Polynesian. Our reasons were because we love the Polynesian and it gave us something to look forward to when it came time to switch. We liked the AKL also but we would have had a hard time leaving the Polynesian to go to another resort.

What are your dates?

I agree with Poly first because it is close to the MK, but I would be thinking about in what park I would be spending Christmas day. If you plan on going to MK, then I would want to stay at the Poly.

You might, also, think about where you want to wake on Christmas morning. My understanding is that the Poly feels less like Crhistmas than some of the other resorts. But that's not stopping us -- that's where we are waking on Christmas morning.

Whatever you do, have a great trip and maybe we will run into you!

Thanks for your replies. Our dates are Dec 19-Dec 26. We have MVMMCP on Dec 19th, so it would make sense to stay at the Polynesian first.

We also have PS for 1900 Park Fare CB on Christmas morning. So we might just stay at the Polynesian the whole time. Ah...so many decisions...so little time.

Lori, are you staying at ASMu, CSR and Poly all on the same trip? How many days are you going to be there? How old are your children?

Yes, all three. We fly in the 16th, stay by the airport; 17 - 19 ASMu, 19 - 22 CSR and 22 - 25 Poly. We fly out the 26th and will stay by the airport on the 25th. Lots of hotels, I know!

I figure this way we will get to stay at more resorts. We've stayed at the Poly before, GV. This time LV concierge. We've stayed at the AKL concierge before, too! AKL is wonderful! DH keeps saying, "We can always switch (from the Poly to AKL)." But I want to compare Poly concierge with AKL concierge, then we will know.

Our children are DD12, DS6 and DS4. I don't have tickets, yet, but we plan on being at MVMCP on th 19th also. We'll have to meet.

After reading about the wonderful concierge at AKL, we decided to try it. We had the same dilema.

We decided to do the Poly first. Get our visits to epcot and MK done first and then maybe do some relaxing over at AKL.

These our my favorite resorts:D Last year we stayed at the Polynesian and then moved the the AKL. We have young kids and I can't imagine not going to the MK right away. We only spent one night at the AKL, but we loved it so much that we didn't leave to go to the AK. It was so relaxing and peaceful and after doing parks for 10 days it was heaven:D The Polynesian is very relaxing too it's just that there is much more going on at the monorail resorts. I'd like to do a split between the two every summer. BTW lizzie64 the AKL concierge is awesome:cool: We'll be back again for one night in January:D

We stayed at the Poly first because we wanted to do MK and Epcot as soon as we got there. The monorail and the motor launch make it so convenient to visit those parks. AKL is so relaxing, we had a hard time getting out to MGM and AK!

Plan to spend at least one day at AKL. You won't regret it!

Have a great trip.

the Poly and the YC, and are doing the POly first because we tend to be MK-heavy in the beginning of the week, and Epcot-heavy at the end of the week.

Aaaah, to have these kinds of dilemmas!

Ain't life grand?
