Hey all. Got a question. :)

Is it much trouble to split resort stays? Being we are having so much trouble choosing a resort, this could be an answer for us. I am thinking maybe just 2 Hotels between our 10 day stay. Can you do a package and still do that? Would it affect the DDP or Tickets? I would be booking thru AAA, so not sure if that is also an issue/factor.

Thanks. :)

splitting resorts...i'm so sorry but my silly side just so wanted to tell you...

Please consider splitting your stay not the resort...we dont care much for split resorts they tend to leave rooms exposed to the elements lol.

Haven't done it myself but people say it isn't so bad they will move your luggage for you but it may take a while.

Are you driving? If I was going to do a split stay, since we always drive, I'd do much the same as I do for our first/last nights which are on the road but close to Disney. I'd pack one suitcase or suitcases for the first resort and a second set for the second resort. Then other than your everyday stuff you won't have as much to take back and forth.

as far as tickets and ddp, you can buy one set of tickets for your whole trip but ddp can cause problems. Each resort is a new reservation. to have ddp the whole time you would need to have a package with tickets for each resort. You can solve this by forgoing ddp the second half (you could the first half but then you wouldnt get your tickets until you checked into the ddp hotel) and buying 1 set of tickets for the whole stay. You can also get both stays with ddp and buy just one day tickets for the second hotel. These one day tickets will be on your room key so you have to be careful not to accidentally use them and they will be good forever (well until you use them).

With a 10 day stay I'd definately do it. We did use AAA too. Might have been two separate reservations, but it was seamless to us. We did it last time, and within Disney property it is a breeze. Just pack you bags and leave them in the room. Have your valuables in a backpack. Check out of hotel one, telling the bellmen that your bags are in room xxxx, and they need to be transferred to resort Y. At that point you can mosey over to the other resort, Check in, then head for the park. You can reverse that and go to the park and check in later, but I like the first method for a couple reasons. First, if you do that, I think (with no real facts) that your chances for an upgrade are better, especially if you ask nice. Second, when you return all you need to do is get your keys and head to the room. Call the bell man and they'll bring you bags up. No fuss, no muss.

Enjoy a couple different ambiences. A ten day stay gives a great chance to enjoy two very different experiences.
MY choices would be WL for one (of course) and one of these three....
- Deluxe = Poly
- Mod = CSR
- Value = Pop
End with WL, you'll be blown away.

We have spent many trips with split stays...it's a great idea. We always did it because we couldn't afford a deluxe for the whole stay. We would stay a few nights at a moderate, and end with a deluxe. It is also nice for a change of scenery. It's not a major hassel at all. I haven't used the DDP, so I'm not sure exactly how that works, but I'm sure its just as easy. Have a great stay!

zdad, thanks for the info. :) So it can be done, rather painlessly? What about the Dining Plan? Would that be a problem at all? I am going blank here, the Dining Plan is per NIGHT of a Hotel stay, so since we are staying from dec 1 to 10, that is 9 nights, which mean we would have 9 days worth of DDP credits correct? (NOT 10 days worth?)

Due to just being overwhelmed, we have had to eliminate some Hotels. The Poly is pretty much out due to thier not being any more AAA Rate Rooms for our stay. The Wilderness Lodge... I don't know what it is but it just doesn't grab us for some reason. Our last time (and first time) in WDW we stayed at AKL, which is our "Fall back" this trip if we can't decide on anything else.

Right now we are really into the Vacht Club or Beach Club, possily the Villas. We might just decide to stay there for all 10 nights. If we split, I was thinking of splitting with the Comtemporary. I have always wanted to stay there when I was little because of the Monorail going thru it. But the themeing seems so lacking. And it has no themed pool to speak of. I LOVE the pool they have at Beach Club; it looks like alot of fun.

Our first Hotel choice was the GF, but again, they are out of AAA room rates. This trip is our Honeymoon and we are not trying to be cheap, but are trying to keep it around $10,000. Before this 10 day stay, we are going to be coming back from a 7 Day Disney Cruise, and the night before that we are staying at the Grand Floridian's Honeymoon Suite for a night. So we will get to see the GF for at least one night.

So much to decide though! She is coming over tonight and we are going to watch the Vacation video.

Again.

Is the Dining Plan tied to a package deal? I could be wrong, but I don't believe there's any way to book a package with a split stay. You'd have to book a package for the first resort, then a second package for the next one. Then your park tickets would also be more expensive since you wouldn't have one set of 6 day tickets but two sets of 3 day ones (for example).

I'd appreciate it if someone would correct me if I'm wrong. We are splitting a stay in June and having to do it with room only ressies and buying tickets separately. I'd love to be able to combine them into a single ressie with DDP, but don't think it's possible.

On the actual changeover, we had no problem with it at all. The only hassle was repacking, but there was no hassle on the Disney end of it.

Check out my previous post about making ddp work for your split stay.
