Splitting Resorts on DDP???

We are staying at CBR for a week in January. We originally wanted to split our trip between 2 resorts but have been told that is not possible because we have the DDP and it is "tied to our resort". I guess I don't fully understand that concept. I don't see why they couldn't just print out new cards with our remaining meals at the new resort. I am hoping to give it one last try when I check in at the resort in person. I have only talked to people on the phone about it and I know that sometimes you can get conflicting answers... Has anyone ever done this? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Would love to split between CBR and CSR!!

DDP is tied to your reservation. If you are staying at multiple resorts on the same ressie, it's all or nothing.

However, if you change it to two seperate ressies, you can have DDP at one resort and do without it at the other. If you want to do that, call CRO back and see if it's possible to split your ressie. You will not only not have to buy DDP for both resorts, you may save money on your room because the non-DDP room will be eligible for discounted room rates.

Keep in mind, however, that DDP expires at midnight after you check out from the resort where you have DDP...so you would not be able to spread a few days meal credits over your entire trip.

Of course you can book two packages, at two different resorts, and have dining on both packages. The problem is both packages require a pass purchase. Since MYW tickets give you extra days for almost free you're paying almost an extra $60 per head for passes. You're not allowed to add dining at check in.

At least one poster thought you could get the pass purchase waived under those cirumcstance but I suspect if that was true we would have seen some definitive posts.

Jim--I didn't know Disney could make a split reservation with only one reservation number. I wonder if that's how a few guests were able to avoid purchasing for an extra park pass.

Thanks. When I first made my reservations, they checked on doing the split. They said that we could do it by having the dining plan on one resort and then doing room only for the rest of the trip. We were planning to split between Pop and a moderate. The total cost to do the split (because of the park hoppers difference, I guess) would have been more than it cost to stay at a moderate for the week, so we opted for that. I called back later to check on just changing from one mod to another and they said it couldn't be done. I think that it could be done, they just don't want to do it. I know that people have been switched from one resort to another for whatever reason and I'm sure that there was no problem with just printing out new cards. I was hoping someone had done this and could give me some advice. We don't get to Disney World too often and we were hoping to be able to experience a couple of different resorts while we were there. :wave2:

we did this in august... POFQ for 2 nights /3 days Friday -sunday on the dining plan then switched over to BWV from sunday -friday (rented points through DVC owner so im not sure if this is different) and had a ressie for the dining plan for 5 days. With the first ressie at POFQ i had the 6 day park hopper passes on that reservation and when we changed resort (BRING THE OLD CARDS) they put the remaining park days on the new boardwalk cards... it was easy... we were able to eat off of 2 seperate dining plans on the same day..which was sunday..

IT IS DIFFERENT, guests staying at at DVC resort "on points" don't have to purchase passes in order to purchase dining

you may want to consider renting points from a DVC owner. for the other half of your stay... it will cost the same if not less than a moderate(depending if you dont stay on a fri or sat. night).. and you can buy one park hopper pass for the whole stay..

It's actually much more different than that.

With DVC, whether you're an owner or renting, your reservation is made through Member Services, which is completely seperate from CRO. They are reservations essentially with two different companies.

You're right about the park tickets, and in addition to that, in most cases you are getting better accommodations at a deeply discounted price as opposed to paying rack rate (or AAA discount).

Unfortunately, Disney is slow to realize that hard-core enthusiasts want to go to different resorts in the same stay (and Disney packages are geared to single resort stays). Not sure why they want to discourage long term stays.
