Splitting resorts: Fun Idea or Hassle?

My wife and I for our next visit are contemplating dividing our stay amongst two different resorts. 10-14 day stay planned (no reservations yet) with one week at one resort and 2nd week at another. Probable targets are GF & BC.

Has anyone ever done this and was it worth it? was it a hassle at all to switch resorts mid vacation? Any other tips, comments, or suggestions?

Thanks

I've changed resorts on shorter trips and really found it to be no hassle at all.
Disney transports your luggage for you, you pack up, call luggage services. The hold your luggage for you and send it to your next resort later in the day. When you check into your new resort, you have your luggage brought to your room.

I find it extremely simple to move resorts, whether I'm solo or with my family. If I'm solo, it's a simple matter to pack up the night before, request Bell Services in the morning, and have a fun park day while my luggage is transferred for me. Sometimes I move my luggage to my own car and just drive over to the new resort to check in before the park.

If my family is with me (two daughters) I have some helpers!!!! We don't mind being "homeless" for the middle part of the day. If we're tired of a park we just come back to the new resort and hang in the lobby until our room is ready.

We like switching resorts - it's like two vacations in one!!!

That's exactly what I was thinking! :teeth: I don't switch if I'm only going for a week but for two weeks I almost always pick two resorts. I feel like I've experienced two vacations. I don't find it difficult at all.

We ALWAYS split our stays! Our kids are now 6 & 10 and we have been doing this the past couple of years. We start out at a Magic Kingdom resort and then end up at an EPCOT (our favorite park) resort. While at the MK resort we go to the MK and the AK. While at the EPCOT resort we go to EPCOT and MGM. Inbetween we also hit DTD & the water parks.

Moving resorts has never been a hassle. Our tradition has been on the day we are "homeless" and moving to the EPCOT resort, we head over to MGM for lunch at the sci-fi. Then we are close to our next resort.

In 3 weeks we are trying our craziest trip yet - 3 resorts in 9 nights!

First 2 nights at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (our 2nd visit). The first night we have no plans. Next morning we have breakfast at Donald's Breakfastasorous (sp?). DH & I have dinner plans for Jiko's at the lodge and the kids will go to daycare at Simba's Cubhouse, also at the lodge.

Third & fourth nights we are at The Wilderness Lodge (1st visit). While there we will have dinner at The Whispering Canyon Cafe one night and the other night we are going to Hoop Dee Doo Review (2nd time) and we are meeting friends from home who will be at the world the same time.

We end the vacation with 5 nights at The Boardwalk Inn - our favorite resort. We have dining reservations at various places in that area - except one night when we head to the Polynesian to have dinner at the Kona Cafe while the kids are at The Neverland Club.

We also hope to get to BOTH waterparks since most trips we only get to one. We may also try to get to Sea World.

We love splitting stays since it is really like having two different vacations - especially if you split with two very different resorts. I know many people wouldn't do it since they don't like the moving, but we have NEVER had any problems with it.

Have fun! :)

We have split stays twice. After 6 nights at POR we switched to the Dolphin for our last night. We said we would never do it again! It was near the end of our vacation and we did not really want to go to the parks anymore but were without a room from checkout at 10 to 3 in the afternoon. The next year we stayed one night at ASMU before our 6 night stay at CSR just to see if a value was doable for us. Although it was fairly easy, we had a car and moved ourselves...went to EMH at MK then drove to CSR to check iin. Our rooms (we had 3) were not ready until 3:30. If you like to spend time in your room or resort in the middle of the day don't do it. Many people seem to really enjoy this option. It is just not for us. Next year we will stay in one resort only,,,I hope!

We're doing exactly this in September! Two night at BCV then 4 nights at GF. We just plan to walk to Epcot when we check out then take the monorail to GF at lunch time to check in.

On our last trip we stayed at 3 resorts with our 2, 8, and 10 year olds. No problems at all. We love it.

We're doing 3 again in Dec.

We have switched resorts the last two trips and are doing it this time also. It is very easy.

we did last year ( and again this year) with our 8 day trips. I didn't think it was hassle at all. We just got up earlier left our bags and they sent it over to the other resort.
This year we are staying 3 nights the YC then 5 nights at the Poly.
We just live out in our suitcases at the YC.

My family has done it a couple times. It is very easy. Pack up, take your bags to bell services (or they will get them for you - but we don't like to wait), head out to a park for the day, then go to the new resort. Very simple. It is like having two different vacations. I love trying new resorts.

For those of you who have done this, did you just book to sepaerate stays and then let them know at check-in that you would be switching hotels?

We started switching resorts and have done so on each of our last 4 trips. We have found that we need at least 4 days to get full use/experience from a resort. I wouldn't switch if I didn't have at least 3 days at one resort. The only pain is packing up clothes again, but we try to do laundry on pack-up night.

We always head over to the new resort right away in the morning and check-in even though we can't get into our room. Then we head out to the parks. It's nice to know you have an assigned room when you get back in the afternoon.

Our first trip we split between a value and a moderate. We decided at the last minute to stay 2 extra days and had the money, so we moved up a little. It was no hassle at all, they do most everything for you...and it was nice to have a couple resots to compare :)

I have split stays twice. Once 3 days in one then 4 in the other. We found it to be a pain to have to pack up in the middle of the week. The last time we did we were there for 2 weeks one in each resort. We liked the split with a 2 week vacation but would never do it of less again.

Thanks for the info on this thread it certainly answered alot of questions I had!!

I considered it for our next trip too, but decided against it (I also posted a thread like this one). I'm just a homebody at heart, and when I park my butt, I like it to stay put for the duration.

It gives me an excuse to go back and try another resort the next time. :cool1:

No hassle to us. We have split our stays several times. :flower:

I agree!

We're doing a split stay in October! I can't remember the last time we didn't do one, LOL!
