What is the opinion on staying at two different resorts for a weeks vacation? We want to stay at POFQ 4 nights and Poly 2 nights. Is it a pain packing and unpacking? Which one should we stay at to start the vacation? We would be going mid April 2018.

Many people love split stays and there are MANY posts here about them. We hate it. We like to settle in, unpack and relax for a week.
If you do decide to do it do the Moderate first followed by the Deluxe

As Hopefully says, there are many different opinions. Mine is, for that length trip, no, it's not worth it. You prob wouldn't get into Poly before 3:00 going at a busy time, spring break. So you'll have arrival night at Poly, one full day, then your gone.
We tend to have long stays flying from west coast to make trip worth it and I don't do split stays unless I can have at least 4 days at a resort. Then I feel like I'm dong more then just checking in and out!

Pofq is so nice, I'd just enjoy that. And stroll over to Riverside.

Bell services will move your luggage for you or you can take them over yourself via taxi (or if you have a car). Packing/unpacking can be a pain, but it's nice to visit different resorts too. I agree you should stay in the moderate first.

We've done many split stays but I would never do it for less than three nights at each resort. Otherwise, I don't feel like it's enough time to really enjoy the resort. I would do a 4/3 split, but not a 5/2.

It's a matter of experience and preference. If you're WDW vets and you think it'll work for you, go for it. We've done splits of different lengths for different reasons, and it's always worked out just fine. If you're new to WDW I don't recommend it, as you'll want to focus on exploring the parks rather than hopping resorts.

The way to do a split stay is to have the switch day be a day you'll be at the parks from morning until evening without a break, so you won't miss having a resort room available mid-day. Have Bell Services transfer the bags for you, and it's easy.

I am the type who never lives out of a suitcase, but rather unpacks everything, and I have no problem with the logistics of split stays. If you're neat and organized, packing and unpacking doesn't really take that long. If you're not, or if you have a big family and/or small kids, then it would probably be more hassle than it's worth.

I think this is excellent perspective and advice on the topic.

OP, we did a 4/2 earlier this year. We're a family of four, kids 6 and 2 at the time. We like packing cubes and find they make the packing/unpacking part a bit easier. We did a water park day on our 'homeless day' which worked out perfectly... got the room ready text right around 3 when we were on the bus to the new resort.

The 4/2 split was fine, although admittedly not ideal... I do tend to agree that 3+ nights is a bit better. But, it was totally doable. Maybe not the best idea for a non-Disney vet. But if you're comfortable with the logistics and want to have a little taste of Poly for 2 nights, I wouldn't totally rule it out.

We've done two split stays and loved both. It's a great way to try out new resorts, or work a deluxe into the budget. We did 4/3 splits both times and that seemed to be enough time to enjoy both resorts. Two nights might not be quite enough time for me. I am pretty organized, so the packing up and moving isn't a big deal for us at all. I would definitely do as others suggested though and put the mod first and end with the deluxe!

I think they're a great way to try new resorts and/or fit a few nights at a deluxe into the budget. We pretty much live out of our suitcases for the most part, so packing up isn't really a pain for us, and we drive so we moved our own luggage.

We've done 2 split stays, one 2/3 and one 4/8. The 2/3 wasn't horrible, except that we started with deluxe (Poly) and moved to CBR. We didn't like CBR at all, so it definitely felt like a downgrade. We went with my parents though and Mom really wanted to try the Poly and it was the only way to work it in with our dates and the availability/discount.

I think the 4/2 would be fine as long as you end on the Poly, and personally I would spend my "homeless" day enjoying the pool/resort. And you never know, you may get your room early.

We did a longer split stay, I think it was 6 AoA and 3 BC on our last vacation. Anyhow, the moving and packing and being "homeless" is a little bit of a pain, but it was worth it for us as we just did things in the BC area (Epcot/DHS/fishing excursion/only ate in those restaurants) the last part of the trip.
I did unpack all the way. However, we traveled lighter on the last part of our trip.
Family of 5...DH, me, 10 year old, two 3 year olds
We drove, so we used these strategies:
--The night before we moved, we did laundry and packed away things we wouldn't need into some of the suitcases to store. Then rearranged the other suitcases to have just what we needed.
--Since we weren't really, really limited on luggage space, I also packed a few sets of some of our toiletries that I didn't want to deal with when possible (e.g., we each had 2 disposable toothbrushes) OR we relied more heavily on the hotel provided toiletries (it didn't kill us to use that soap and shampoo for a few days).
--As I said before, I planned so those nights at BC involved only things in that area Epcot/DHS, Yachtsman, Cape May, Akershus pre-park opening breakfast, fishing excursion in Epcot, etc. It was lovely not driving or busing anywhere!
