Splitting meals

My DD (25) and I are going to WDW in November. By that time we are each on track to lose about 120 pounds total (me 70, her 50). Do the table service restaurants allow 2 adults to split a meal? I would hate for us to order 2 meals and leave at least half behind. We are on the dining plan.
Also, our absolute favorite thing in WDW is the bread at Kona Café. We have always gone for dinner but would like to try their breakfast. Any idea if the bread is available at breakfast? I wouldn't mind paying extra for it - we love it that much! Thanks!!

We have never had a problem with splitting meals as long as it wasn't family style or buffet. Regular sit down meals - no problem! And yes, we have done it at Kona.

At most TS restaurants where you order from a menu you will be able to share. The one exception is Via Napoli where you cannot use just one credit to feed 2 people. Also, at VN if you want pizza, you can only order the individual size when using a credit and you cannot combine credits for the larger size. Also, any item that is listed "for 2" on a menu will require 2 credits.

You cannot share and both of you will be charged credits (or pay Out of Pocket) at buffets (e.g. Crystal Palace, Boma), all you care to eat family style meals (e.g. Garden Grill, 'Ohana), dinner shows (Hoop De Doo, Mickey's Backyard Barbecue, Spirit of Aloha Luau), fixed price meals (e.g. Akershus, CRT), Fantasmic and Candlelight Processional Dining Packages, special events (e.g. Fireworks dessert parties, F&W special events), and the Family Platter at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

I have never seen the pineapple bread at breakfast. You can ask, but I remember reading that someone asked and was told it wasn't available until later in the day.

Just one note on sharing meals. My husband and I have done this on a few occasions and when the meal is split in the kitchen, we thought we would get half the entree and half the sides. Er, we got half the entree but more than half the sides. We once did a burger split at Sci Fi and while we had half the burger, we had a full serving of fries each on the plate. We joked with the server that we thought the chef just didn't want to see any piece of the plate not covered.

I would suggest that you carry Ziploc type bags with you as well as a plastic grocery bag. If you have leftover food, put it in the Ziploc type bags and then into the grocery bag to carry with you as most places don't have good containers (if any) to take food home with you. You could also carry a small soft sided six pack cooler as well for the leftovers to be stored in so they don't get crushed.

If you go prepared, you won't even have to think about leaving anything behind and can keeping counting down.

If you're planning to split meals and are trying to lose weight, I really have to advise against the dining plan. You'll have much more freedom with out. Remember, on the plan, every single meal includes dessert.

Wow. Looking for a reply in 9 minutes on Friday -!?!- That is pretty quick
You have gotten good answers to your questions
I would ask though -is the DDP a good fit for the 2 of you if you are going to split most meals? What is your plan for the leftover credits?

I was just going to respond as Hopefully did! Please consider the comments above as I heartily agree!

My DH and I just got back from a trip where we split meals for the first time. At first, he was not excited about the idea, but he still got plenty of food and ended up thinking it was a great idea. We have always done one of the dining plans, but this time we didn't. We paid OOP for our meals and ended up saving money by splitting. We mainly did this at lunch. We would split an appetizer or a dessert (or both if there were some we wanted to try) plus an entree. We finally left the restaurant feeling full but not miserable. It was great! We also found that it was almost as cheap to do this as to get two CS meals.

If it's not too late, I too would recommend against the Dining Plan. We did it once and found it was just SO much food, and we weren't even on a weight loss plan (I am now, though). We split entrees about half the time and it's always plenty enough food, plus we save a lot of money. We also went grocery shopping with garden grocer and are planning a couple of meals taken back at the room - we go back to the resort for nap time, so we'll make a couple of sandwiches instead of eating yet another burger in parks where the Quick Service offerings are a little slight, like DHS.

I totally agree here. If you're looking to eat small meals, the dining plan is NOT a good idea IMO. There's a ton of food (yes im referring to the standard DP, 1 TS, 1 QS, 1 snack). You'd benefit from paying OOP, much cheaper, much less food.
