Splitting meal ??

When you are at a TS and you split a meal, do you ask the waiter to split it before it is brought out or do you just ask for 2 plates? Planning on trying this and was wondering what's the norm? TIA

Just tell the waitstaff that you are splitting and they will bring youanadditional plate. Just remember to increase the tip since the waitstaff is actually waiting on 2 people for teh price of 1

My sister and I split meals all the time. When ordering we mention that we will be spliting the meal. It usually comes out split already on 2 plates. I can remember very few times that they just brought out a 2nd plate for us to split the item ourselves. It is usually when the item is messy and will not make for a good presentation....the chicken pot pie at Prime Time Cafe for instance.

you tip on the price of the meal but can always give a higher %

We always just say "we're going to split the chicken salad" and every time it came out pre-split in the kitchen. That gives them the choice of doing it that way or bringing an extra plate.

We always tip like we both got entrees as they do the same work.
