Splitting entrees....OK??

We are beginning to plan our 1st trip to WDW-Nov.13-21 and are trying to make a food budget. I have read a ton of useful information on here already and I know the portions are usually large. I want to know if we would be able to split an entree between 2 adults and also have 3 kids share 2 kids meals at table service restaurants. I don't mean will we go hungry but rather will the waiter hate us/refuse to do it/charge for a 2nd plate/etc?

No problems splitting plates at a la carte menu restaurants. You're paying per person prices at any buffets or "all you care to eat" restaurants, though.

Check Allears.net for the menus and they also have alot of pictures of the foods to give you a better idea about what you are trying to estimate.

If I had to guess, the adult entrees could be split easily between two adults in many cases. The children's entrees--I am not so sure that two would satisfy three kids. Most of the restaurants have gone to a "standard" for the kid's menu and not too many of those are actually oversized.

Best of luck in planning your trip!

Jenn

Thanks Jenn-I am looking at menus from Allears--that is an awesome planning tool. My kids are very light eaters and my idea was that if anyone was still hungry we could top off with a snack or dessert.

We did a lot of entree sharing during our recent visit, though mostly a reflection of the fact that we did a lot of two-sit-down-meals-a-day days. That would be a lot of food, especially given that we each are going to have an appetizer salad at at least one meal per day no matter way. However, there were a couple of meals where, after splitting them, we went away hungry (or chose to fill-up on dessert). No grievance against the restaurants: We decided to split a meal intended for one person, so if it wasn't enough food for two, that's our responsibility. However, that was only two out of eight meals.

I do agree that the child meals really aren't going to spread nicely. Maybe three toddlers could split two child meals, but I think spreading three child meals among three children where even just one of them is of school age is probably expecting far too much.

I just wanted to let you know that I saw the dates for your trip and I am so excited for you!!!! We went that week this past year and we almost had the parks to ourselves!!!! You picked an absolute winner!! My DD decided she didn't want to miss a whole week of school again for this Nov, so we'll be there only part of that time this year. Just wanted to give you a congrats on picking probably the best week of the year to go! ;)

My 3 kids, aged 1, 4, and 8 on our last trip shared two counter service meals--no problem. They are moderate eaters. But with two sides on each meal, there was plenty of food.

Thanks-I spent a lot of time debating between the week before Thanksgiving week and the week after Thanksgiving week. The kids are out of school the week of Thanksgiving so I decided to go the week before they get out so we will have a 2nd week to recover once we get home!

Our kids are very small for their ages 9,7, and 5. For counter service I am going to try 2 kids meals to start off and if it's not enough, we can return to the counter and buy a 3rd kids meal. In general, none of them ever finish a kids meal from McD, Chick Fil A, etc so I think they will do it in 2. I am more concerned about table service because in my imagination, it would be harder to add an extra meal when the food arrives at the table. I think we will figure it out and I will budget in some wiggle room in case they decide to eat a ton at WDW.

Well, it won't be that difficult really, because the difference in the size of portions for kids meals is pretty small, isn't it? I mean, there are full-service restaurants that have really big adult portions and full-service restaurants that have normal adult portions, but for kids meals, I think the portions are pretty consistent, restaurant to restaurant.... no?
