i must really be an idiot..i've searched these boards and can not find what i am looking for.

Would like to know how to go about how a DVC member can go about splitting the dining plan. We have a 7 day trip planned - we want the standard dining plan (one CS, one TS daily) for all days except days 2 & 3 - on days 2 & 3 we want the deluxe dining plan.

so, all you vets out there...how can i do this? whom do i need to call? what do i need to tell them? and based on your experience, what else do i need to be aware? what was your experience doing this?

TIA
wendy

You need to call MS and have the room reservation segmented. Once segmented, you can add the appropriate dining plan to each segment. The dining plan must be paid for in full at the time it's added to the room reservation.

As noted, just call MS for direct DVC reservations. IF by chance this is an exchange, you can't do it.

This is kind of on topic, so I thought I would ask. How do you go about paying for the DP if half of your family will only be there for a part of the trip, but in your room. My cousin is going with us in December for 8 nights. He is DVC too and has a two-bedroom at Saratoga. His parents will be in the two bedroom for four of those nights. How does that work. Does he pay only for the days they are there?

He would want to call and have the reservation segmented based when the occupants change. He could then get the dining plan only on the segments where they want it. He could also do different plans on each segment.

That is very interesting. Do you mean he would have to change the reservation/rebook? Or essentially just tell them that the occupants will be different for different sections?

I haven't segmented a reservation, but reportedly they can do it without losing the reservation. Each segment would appear as a separate reservation but would be under the same travel plan number. If he didn't segment, he would have to pay for the dining plan for the length of stay for all occupants even if they are not in the room for the entire time.

We segmented for the dining plan on our trip last May because my son and his finance were flying in to meet us on the second day of our trip and flying out again 2 days before we were scheduled to leave. We go the regular dining plan for the entire length of the stay, but had it segmented due to the change in the number of people staying in our villa.

We did have to get new cards each time the reservation changed, but it was a painless process. Just be aware that even though its a segmented reservation, for us each segment was a handled as check out/check (I'm assuming because the number of guest changed). On the last two days our credits dropped at 6ish in the evening instead of midnight. However, Old Key West did a great job of taking care of our meal that night at Olivia's. Not sure how it would have been handled had we been in the parks and not been at the resort. All in all, I'd segment again if needed....
