Splitting CS meals

So glad there are some of you out there like me lol. The majority of folks seem to be able to share.

I guess I'm a bigger eater than I thought cause there is zero way I could share a typical sandwich at lunch (12ish) and make it the 6-7 hrs until dinner! I'd be eating somebody's arm by 3 haha.

It would definitely be more economical to share, I wish I could!

The only way we could share a meal is if we plan to have a treat later or had popcorn a little while before the meal.

We never order two complete meal. We love Columbia house. They give chips with the meal. We get two sandwiches or one sandwich and a soup. We take the chips for a snack later. Other places we ask for just the burger/sandwich and do not get the fries. We never get the desserts at the CS.

In general, I would say we eat 1.5 meals for two adults.

I am going to be hated for saying this but....

Honestly we American's eat WAY too much. I routinely eat half of any entree or a burger or a sandwich. I am a healthy adult women, I don't starve. I don't need that much food!

It's getting your brain to accept you don't need more. Truthfully you are not really THAT hungry your brain tell you that you are.

Argue all you want but if I can survive on that much food and Europeans can then why can't you?

The adult American simply does not require a bigger portion or more calories than anyone else.

On our last trip, we tried to stick to CS places where the sides and desserts were individually wrapped. We'd eat the entree and get a bottled drink, and we'd carry the sides and desserts to have as a snack later. We found that bags of baby carrots, apple slices, and cookies worked best for this. We also carried the bottled drink since we hardly ever finished it.

We used to be able to split a meal between 2 of us. On our last trip I felt like the portions were smaller than I remembered. We could split 2 meals between 3 of us, but not 1 meal between 2 of us.

The portions have been getting smaller, Cosmic Rays used to serve a double burger. Now they serve a single with a crumble bun. The prices have been getting higher and higher and the portions smaller. I am convinced the prices are propped up so they can sell the Dining Plan as a "deal". We are two retired PT FL local residents for almost 8 years and have seen the food cost more and more out of pocket. Quality and quantity are both down in my opinion. I was shocked when we went to 50s Prime Time when I ordered the pot roast, stringy with hard julienne veggies lumped in served on a small scoop of lumpy potatoes. Years ago it was a wonderful meal and I had looked forward to it so much - awful, won't be back. Mom's pot roast is no more ;(

If you have been to Universal IOA the 1/2 chicken meal in The Hogs Head is very shareable and the size you used to get at Disney. There is chicken meat on the chicken and my dh can eat the thigh and leg and 1 side item (you get 2) and feel full. I have a nice portion of thr chicken breast left, not a few small bites.

DH and I often shared our meals at wdw. We shared a burger at Pecos bill's and another day shared a taco salad there. We split a pizza at pizza planet (and the tiny side salad). Each of those meals were enough to fill us up.

In the real world, we normally have small-ish portions, by American standards, I guess. I can eat at Steak & Shake and eat the $4 bacon cheeseburger meal and be full. If we get a $5 hot & ready at Little Caesars, I normally eat 2 breadsticks and one slice of pizza. I might eat a 2nd slice if I'm feeling particularly ravenous. DH always eats 3-4 slices of pizza and then at least 2 breadsticks.

Also, we normally eat one large meal a day, usually dinner. For example, this weekend, we had a small bowl of cereal for breakfast, a half sandwich and small piece of fruit (me- apple, dh- banana) for lunch. Dinner was penn station subs. 6" for me, 10" for DH, 6" for dd. we had 2 things of fries, one large and one small.

I think it would depend on how hungry I am. The chicken and rib plate at Cosmic Rays is big enough to share. I wouldn't dare share my chicken and ribs at Flame tree though, I want it all :-) I think the Taco Salad at Pecos Bills is big enough to share. So is the big Turkey sandwich at Sunshine Seasons. Now TS meals are a different story. I think a lot of those are big enough to share.

haven't read all replies yet but here's how we roll:rotfl: we tend to eat smaler meals or share, b/c there are so many choices everywhere, and we also tend to NOT fill up at each stop..... so a day could look like this.... Breakfast is a bowl of cereal in the room... when we get to a park, someone in the fam stops for a cup of coffee, and a pastry, we all grab a pinch to taste.... in an hour someone else wants an ice cream, so we grab a couple,(4 people) and each have another 1/2 ice cream/small snack.... at lunch, we've been snacking,so hit a decent cs, share a couple of meals (or I sometimes grab a kids meal) share a drink around,KWIM?
so I don't expect 1/2 a cs chicken meal at Cosmic Rays to fill my DH for 6 hours, just to have a little lunch, till the next goodie shows up....which we tend to share also.....If you tend to share one GIANT cookie ice creamsandwich, no one gets hungry again for a while.... in this way we've spent no more than 100.00 per day total on 4 'adults' at WDW, no one is ever hungry, including teenagers.....I think it's more the grazing that makes it work..... I prefer it to 4 oversized meals with too many sides and a dessert that I throw away, plus bathtub sized cups of soda that no one finishes(hello dining plan!):rotfl2: this way we pick and choose EXACTLY the things we want, and nothing is thrown away......

Ok, my curiosity is growing. For those that split meals between two adults (or those that don't) what's your typical meal like away from the world?

From the sandwiches/burgers I've seen or eaten from CS they're isn't much to them that I would call them huge. It's not like the burgers are some half-pound deal with a Five Guys mound of fries. They are always those thin fast food type burgers and a lot of bread. Maybe people load them up with toppings?

I guess I never thought of myself as eating so much more than other people lol. It's making me wonder....

At home my guys eat a LOT. But it's more regular set mealtime eating, i.e. BIG breakfast, lunch, dinner.
at WDW, it's a lot of grazing and snacking.... which= smaller portions which = less $$$
so say a GOOD cs meal is approx. 10.00 for lunch, order 2 of those, and share (cheesy fries anyone? my teens love them) that's 20.00- add one large soda (bathtub size is about 3.00) that's 23.00..... in another hour or so, we grab a couple of cookies,or bag of popcorn so figure another 10.00 and still at about 30.00....we don't drink soda except that one at lunch....(don't drink it at home)plus for dinner, we might each get one full cs plate (say....Tangeriene cafe,12.00 each=48.00) total for the day is approx. 81.00..... give or take a couple of cupcakes in the day...:rotfl:(those things are BIG, 4 people sharing one is like 1 normal cupcake at home!)
We only spend on the actual food items we will eat, when we did the FD once, it was fun, but we gained weight, and threw away a TON of unused food.....
