What are people’s thoughts on a split vacation between WDW and a half week Disney cruise on the Wish? We will be traveling with our five-year-old daughter. Our concern is that this might be too much. Right now the plan is to only have about two park days before we head to the port.

Sounds good. If you can find more time for wdw do that but if not 2 days is something. 5 year olds will love cruises if they are confident enough to do the kids clubs. Our 5 year old thought the disney cruise kids club was heaven on earth.

That sounds great as long as you won’t feel like you missed too much with only 2 days at the parks. If you plan to do just what your daughter wants to/can do, 2 days might be enough. Then you can all relax on the Wish, which doesn’t require much advance planning to have a great time.

Our first two Disney cruises, when our son was 4 and I was pregnant and later when our daughter was 3, were split park/cruise trips because we weren’t sure how the kids would do on the ship. Both did great, so after our daughter’s first cruise we did a 7-night cruise the following year.

I did that with a 7 and 3 year old last year (although we only did one park day), I think 2 park days will be fine if it's 3 nights, then it gives you some space between unpacking and re-packing.

Sounds like a great trip. The cruise is a lot less tiring than park days, I don't think your daughter will feel overwhelmed or tired.

If it's a 4 night cruise, maybe. Anything less than that and it's too much packing/unpacking and traveling, IMHO. If you only have a week, I would consider choosing WDW or DCL, not both.

it's too much packing/unpacking

Packing cubes and/or 2 bags. For my August trip, I'm planning on having cubes for the WDW portion I can pull out there, then pack those back up and never get into them on the ship. I'm pondering 2 bags - one that won't even get opened at WDW and the other that won't even get opened on the ship.

We’ve done this using three bags. One for stuff we need for both parts like sunscreen, toiletries, and shoes, one just for WDW clothes, and one just for cruise outfits. It’s worked out really well for us!

Our first cruise was "a 7 night DCL cruise only". We were not ready to go home. After this first cruise, they were all done with a WDW stay or Disneyland stay (only two were not - our Bermuda cruise from NY and our 11 N. Med cruise out of Barcelona). Would not do it any other way. I personally would not do less than 3 nights in WDW.

Happy Planning!!
