How do ppl get their luggage to the new resort during split stays without a car? We will be going from beach club villas to Rivera.

Call up bell service when you are ready to check out. They will move your luggage to next resort. Only downside, you may not have your luggage until 5 or 6 in the evening, even if you get a room ready text at 3 pm. So make sure, anything thing you need for that day/evening , you have with you.

A few years ago , we had a family trip and moved luggage and groceries with plans of cooking dinner in the next resort. We thought we would get luggage about 4. Didn't get until 7. It was the first time we ever got luggage transferred that late, so we didn't plan well.

I second everything said by jo-jo. If you don't want to wait for bell services to come and get your luggage you can also take it down to their kiosk in the lobby, too.

Are they still doing this now even with Covid?

Yes, we were there a month ago. Moved 6 grandkids, DD and DDIL. Between groceries and suitcases, back packs, etc....20 items. CM didn't blink an eye.

Duffy Lover and jo-jo give good advice. We dropped our luggage at bell services, and it was waiting for us that evening at our next resort. Knowing that it may not arrive until the evening, we spent the day at the park and came back around 6:00. We were first timers, and it was really a smooth transition.

Does it work like this if you’re going from moderate to DVC? Thinking of doing 1 night at CBR & then transferring to Rivera.

We've only stayed at DVC resorts the past dozen years so I really can't be sure.

We typically drop our bags off at bell services and request the transfer as sometimes it can take a while for them to come to your room to get them. But be aware once you submit them for transfer they don’t guarantee delivery until 5 pm so you could be waiting a while. My last split stay it was 4:30 pm in both instances when the bags finally arrived at the new resort, despite being dropped off at 7 am in the morning.

So one more question, how do we know that the luggage has made it to the new resort? Do they contact you or do you just have to keep checking with bell services?

Check with Bell Services. There are some reports that guests requested that the transferred bags be automatically delivered to their room at the new resort, but I have no personal experience doing that.

I always tip when dropping off my bags at the original resort, as well as when I pick up or have bags delivered at the new resort.

This is a great service. I hope that Disney never discontinues it.

You can eliminate this delay is you call Bell Services the night before and schedule a specific time for them to pick up your bags. Scheduled times take priority over anyone who calls the morning of. I've done it a dozen times and they have always arrived promptly.

Here's the full process for luggage transfers.

You drop off your luggage (including any groceries) with Bell Services prior to 11am. You can have Bell Services come get your bags from your room if you choose. If you do that, you may want to arrange for that pickup the day before. You have to be in your room for them to pickup your stuff and calling down the morning of the transfer can have you waiting an hour or more for them to get to you. Pre-arranged times get priority.

You go about your day.

At approx 1pm (regardless of when you actually drop off your bags with Bell Services), a massive dance begins. Luggage from each resort is transported to a central warehouse, where it is all sorted, put back on trucks and transported to the new resorts. This should be completed by 4pm, but occasionally takes longer.

Your luggage will be stored at Bell Services at your new resort.

When you're done with your day, go to your new resort.

To collect your bags, you can either pick them up yourself from Bell Services, or call from your room to have them delivered. They will not automatically deliver your bags to your room.

Remember that tipping is expected on either end of the process when Bell Services handles your bags.

Also, remember that you will not have access to your stuff from the time you drop things off, until they arrive at the new resort.

Groceries that need to be refrigerated or frozen should be placed in separate bags. Bell Services will store them properly throughout the process.

It's really very painless.

Thank you for writing all that out. I had no idea the luggage went on a play date with other luggage at a warehouse. I thought a truck from BLT drove to BC, dropped off bags, drove to AKL, dropped off bags, etc.

I never knew about the calling the night before. For DH and I that would work. The trip with the kids, we needed every min before 11 packing up kids, clothes, toys, tablets, shoes. It would have been hard to say the bags would be ready at X for pickup.

We always take an Uber to the other resort, drop the bags off ourselves, and then take that resort's transportation (or walk) to the park we're going to that day. On our very first split stay we used the Disney bag transfer service and didn't get our bags until 10pm. Sounds like that was just a fluke but it was enough for us to not use it again.

You have to keep checking. Just call once you’re in your room and hopefully they can give you a timeframe.

You literally have NO IDEA what you are talking about and I would love to know why you think this is true?

Each resort is responsible for taking their transfers to the destination resorts.

For one, I've been told that by more than one Bell Services CM involved in the process, and a resort manager. I have no reason to doubt them.

Additionally, the logistics of each resort doing point to point transfers is, operationally, inefficient and just plain stupid. Using a central hub as a transfer point is the simplest way to move thousands of pieces of luggage between 23 resorts quickly and with minimal travel.

We used to move ours when we had a car, then we decided to have bell services move it. We’ve done it that way ever since. Sooooo much easier. We do split stays almost every trip. We’ve never had to wait for it when they take it in the morning. It’s always been there for us by check in at the new resort.
